| | Mudhoney Under A Billion Suns CD Mudhoney Discography of CDs
The second album since Mudhoney's 21st-century revitalization and return to its origins at the venerable Sub Pop label, 2006's UNDER A BILLION SUNS finds the Seattle grunge veterans building on its predecessor, SINCE WE'VE BECOME TRANSLUCENT. On this formidable 11-track set, frontman Mark Arm and company once again bring out the horn section for a few numbers (opener "Where Is the Future," the raucous closer "Blindspots"), and, more importantly, pound the distortion pedals and toms like it's 1989, particularly with the lurching "On the Move" and "Hard-On for War," essentially a sludgy update of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs." Anyone doubting that Mudhoney still packs a serious sonic punch will be happily knocked out by this excellent outing.

Rolling Stone (p.94) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]hey deliver a bluesy sprawl full of meaty punk riffs and Stooges-schooled abandon that still outpaces less-inspired slop-rock bands." Uncut (p.105) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "The familiar sludgy by dynamic guitars are enlivened this time round by swinging soul horns..." Mojo (Publisher) (p.100) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "With its indelible songs and bug-eyed intensity, this album makes you wish that more bands could be so irreverent." | | Mudhoney Since We've Become Translucent CD (2002)
Under A Billion Suns songs
$12.95 Yes folks, Mudhoney is back -- three years after the near-fatal one-two punch of Matt Lukin's resignation from the band and Reprise Records dropping the group from their roster, the founding fathers of grunge have shaken off the dust and recorded Since We've Become Translucent, which oddly enough sounds a bit like the adventurous major-label project the band never bothered to make for Bugs Bunny. Mudhoney still ranks low on the slickness meter on Since We've Become Translucent (the entire album was recorded in eight days), but the band ...

$13.89 SOUND SUN PLEASURE! was originally released on Saturn (512) in 1970, and is believed to have been recorded between 1958-1960. DEEP PURPLE was originally released on El Saturn (485) in 1973, and is believed to comprise the earliest known recordings by Sun Ra in Chicago (between 1953-1955).
The first half-dozen cuts on Sound Sun Pleasure (1970) are thought to have been documented between 1958 and 1960, during Sun Ra and his Astro Infinity Arkestra's residency in Chicago. Although Ra's arrangements are as intricate and involved as any from the era, the song list draws heavily upon standards. That said, it might be recommended as a starting point for parties not acclimated to the artist's later and exceedingly ...
