| | Elvis Presley Elvis: Rock CD Elvis Presley Discography of CDs
Issued in early 2006, ROCK forms a trilogy with two other Elvis Presley compilations (COUNTRY and INSPIRATIONAL), each one focusing on a specific aspect of the King's legacy. While the latter sets present primarily late-1960s/early-'70s material, this appropriately lively installment features tracks recorded between 1956 and '58, showcasing Elvis as he tries superstardom on for size. This is of course the man who brought rock & roll to mainstream America, and while the collection includes many of the usual suspects ("Don't Be Cruel," "Hound Dog," "Jailhouse Rock," etc.), it also boasts more obscure sides such as the fierce "Hard Headed Woman," the swaggering film tie-in "King Creole," and the aptly titled "Party." Although there are numerous collections that mine similar territory, few have such clear-cut intentions, making ELVIS: ROCK a notable release. Elvis Presley Elvis: Rock Songs Elvis: Rock Review

Elvis: Rock album
$15.05 A seminal deep soul singer with a voice that combined the sheer power of Otis Redding's scratchy holler with the emotional subtlety of Sam Cooke's deathless croon, James Carr routinely tops critics lists of "finest male soul singers," but often goes unrecognized by the general public. His career-making 1967 recording of Dan Penn and Chip Moman's heart wrenching "Dark End of The Street" is the definitive take on the song, easily besting versions by the likes of Aretha Franklin and the Flying Burrito Brothers. Incredibly, the rest of his catalogue more than matches this high standard.
Kent Records' superb COMPLETE GOLD WAX SINGLES compiles all the singer's sides for Quentin Claunch's tiny Goldwax imprint. ...
| | Elvis Presley Elvis At Sun CD (2004)
Elvis: Rock CD music
$8.99 Cited by many historians as the definitive documents of rock & roll's earliest era, Elvis Presley's Sun recordings are cultural milestones arguably as influential as any American music ever created. ELVIS AT SUN supplants THE SUN SESSIONS as the most comprehensive and well-researched single-disc collection of these historic tracks (the two-disc SUNRISE being the ultimate Sun motherlode). Pairing every extant original master tape with modern mastering techniques, the disc provides excellent-sounding versions of these cherished tracks. Ernst Mikael Jorgensen's excellent liner notes detail a wealth of fascinating information, even going so far as to discuss contemporaneous ...
| | Alexis Korner Kornerstoned: Anthology 1958-1983 CD (2006) (Import) United Kingdom

So we get not only his mid-1960s work ...
| | Elvis Presley CD (1956) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Elvis: Rock songs
$7.59 When Elvis first broke on the national scene, nobody--not RCA, not Elvis' manager Colonel Tom Parker, and certainly not Elvis himself--had any idea how long his popularity would last. Most assumed that rock and roll was a passing fad and that Presley would soon be relegated to the "where are they now?" bin. Unsurprisingly, RCA rushed Presley's first album to market before Elvis had recorded enough new material for an entire record. The result, ELVIS PRESLEY, is a cut-and-paste job consisting of seven RCA recordings and five older tracks licensed from Sun Records, Presley's first label.
Still, this is a monumental record in the history of rock and roll, from its iconic cover (which The Clash later paid homage to on the cover of LONDON CALLING) to the twelve great tracks to its unprecedented sales figures (it topped the Billboard album charts for 20 weeks). The RCA material includes Elvis' arrangement of "Blue Suede Shoes" and covers of R&B hits "Money Honey," "Tutti Frutti," and "I Got a Woman." The record is short (29 minutes) and the material it contains is available on lots of other discs, but if you must have the record that started a revolution, this is the ...

Elvis: Rock music CDs
$16.09 Venezuelan harpist Carlos Guedes brings together 15 musicians from eight countries on his Pan-Latin American album, Toda América. Diverse and rhythmic, the music speaks to a cultural common ground, with jazzy overtones and vibrant compositions that feature over 30 different percussion instruments. At the center of the eleven tracks is Guedes's electro-acoustic Venezuelan harp, played with an amazing technical facility which liberates the harp and its percussive capabilities. The lineup of musicians reads like a who's who in Latin-inspired music: Jorge ...
| | Francesco De Gregori Titanic CD (1982)
Elvis: Rock songs
$31.45 Francesco De Gregori entered the '80s at the peak of his powers with Titanic. With the exception of two amiable but slight rockers of the kind that would often clutter his productions, every track on this record is nothing less than stellar. De Gregori's songwriting is so exceptional that sometimes one neglects how beautiful some of his arrangements and melodies can be. In this sense, Titanic is one of his most musically accomplished sets, evenly divided between majestic piano ballads (the magnificent closer "San Lorenzo") and acoustic guitar-driven numbers (the lovely "Caterina"), often enhanced by delicate violin embellishments. Titanic ...
