Sara Groves - Add To The Beauty DVD
$12.19 Proving that, even as late as 2006, there's still a little life left in the genre of rap-metal, Atlanta's Family Force 5 keep the jokes and the grooves in steady supply on their major label debut, BUSINESS UP FRONT PARTY IN BACK. Featuring three siblings (the Olds brothers: Solomon, Joshua, and Jacob) on vocals and the majority of instrumentation, the album they've made is a non-stop barrage of fretless funk, stiffened by metallic ...

Sara Groves - Add To The Beauty video
$10.25 Randy Travis was a charter member of the coterie of country artists that earned the term "New Traditionalists" in the 1980s, and he's remained true to that appellation ever since. Consequently, an album full of religious material, which might have turned into an overproduced affair in lesser hands, turns out to be a tasteful, pleasingly economical outing, based ...

| | Dennis Brown Live At Montreaux CD (1979) Bonus DVD
Sara Groves - Add To The Beauty video
$11.15 This live set, recorded at the 1979 Montreux Jazz Festival in front of an audience that is remarkably enthusiastic given his relatively low European profile at the time, finds Dennis Brown poised on the cusp of international stardom and singing at the peak of his considerable powers. Backed by the We the People band, which was led at the time by bassist Lloyd Parks, Brown delivers a solid set of his patented late-period roots reggae, blasting through "Wolves and Leopards" (one of his signature songs) and great versions of the Dennis Walks classic "Drifter" and Vivian Jackson's "Yabby You," and stretching out "Don't Feel No Way" for a bit too long; with all the band intros and solos, the thing goes on for just over 15 minutes. He closes the program with the song that would soon become the biggest hit of his career, "Money in My Pocket." The band is in great form, especially the crack horn section, and the sound quality is about as good as could be expected. Those who aren't already fans should probably start with his studio work (in particular the two greatest-hits collections on Heartbeat), but fans will enjoy this live set very much. ~ Rick Anderson
The gushing liner notes make it sound like you've just purchased the reggae Live at Leeds, but this 1979 concert from Dennis Brown isn't that gripping. It bounces from great to very good depending how Brown's voice is holding up and the tightness of the band. "So Jah Say" hits the stage hard with Brown and his backing We the People Band firing on all cylinders. Brown's voice gets gruff after that, which isn't the best place for a crooner of lovers rock to be. He recovers just in time for a blistering take on "Yabby You" but he's pushing hard and pays for it. The closing double-time version of "Money in My Pocket" is a good example of how Brown toughened up at the end of the '70s and it's a shame his throat isn't up to the challenge. Like so many other reggae records, this one is overly available with plenty of label and cover choices out there to confuse shoppers. Packing in a DVD of the show makes this the one to get but don't expect to be blown away by the video quality. Like the show, it's rough. With all this spirit coming from the singer and his band, you can't help but feel one night this way or that way, this was the show to hear. ...
