This ominous studio outing finds the British singer/multi-instrumentalist focused on atmosphere more than catchy hooks (a la his lone hit "Cars"), seemingly picking up where David Bowie left off on 1995's OUTSIDE (minus that disc's busy narrative conceit). Numan is clearly committed to weighty industrial arrangements on this album, as best evidenced on the heavy, brooding "Halo," which washes listeners in a wave of distorted guitar lines and pounding rhythms. Perhaps more than any other Numan release, this disc will appeal to metal and Goth fans, revealing that the veteran performer remains both relevant and creatively restless nearly 30 years into his recording career. The sprawling and dark Jagged finds Gary Numan continuing his love affair with all things gothic and industrial, and while many of the tracks are rich, layered, and downright creepy, the album as a whole is tough going, with too many songs sounding the same. The soft-loud-soft-even-louder technique that Nine Inch Nails often employ is beaten to death here and long, eerie intros are the norm. Numan's lyric writing is inspired, mostly by betrayal and heartbreak, and his teaming with multi-instrumentalist Ade Fenton has brought on a new sound for the veteran synth-man, one with landscapes that are sinister and vast. It's mesmerizing for a track or two, then three or for more, and the listener is begging for a melody or something sharp to cut through the muck. Jagged Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars)    List All Reviews Same old song and dance... I don't get what all the fuss is about. Jagged would have sounded fresh back in the mid to late 90s but now it just sounds dated.

He's Back!!! I had lost touch with Numan after 'Berserker', but when I fortuiously heard a track from 'Jagged', I said, He's Back!!! I'm not familiar with the previous recordings like 'Pure', but 'Jagged' easily stands up with 'Telekon', 'Dance' and 'I,Assassin'. Welcome back Gary, and I am on for the ride. Dark & Gloomy sounds I played Grand theft Auto:Vice City when I 1st heard Numan with cars but as a marilyn manson fan I never expected to hear such darkness from a new wave artist buy this here I paid $16.99 for my copy the song jagged is great Submitted by Manolo Montana (Cuba) Was This Review Helpful? Darkly Pleasing I previewed a couple of songs before hitting the buy button; and I'm glad I decided to add this cd to my collection! This is one of the few cds I own that I like every single song. I was fortunate to see Numan live this year and the music you hear on the cd is very close to the live experience. For someone who hasn't been following his evolution since the '80s hit 'Cars', I was pleasantly suprised.. I always knew Numan had a touch of the Goth in him!!! Well done! More of the same... Jagged has Numan visiting familiar territory. There's not much different here than on Pure or even Exile. It would be nice if Gary Numan was to move on into different territory. I think he's playing it safe because he knows there is a strong and younger audience for this type of music. Released in 1982 to commemorate a decade at Epic Records, Anniversary is a double LP (later reissued as a single CD) spanning 22 tracks and containing all of George Jones' big hits, from 1972's "A Picture of Me (Without You)" to 1982's "Same Ole Me," all produced by Billy Sherrill. Broken down to the details, it's an impressive, weighty collection and would be essential just for having such exquisitely crafted and sang hits as "We Can Make It," "The Grand Tour," "The Door," "Once You've Had the Best," and "He Stopped Loving Her Today." What makes Anniversary transcendent, one of the best country albums of all time, is the context and subtext, how it reads like an autobiography of the most turbulent, heartbreaking decade in Jones' life. When this was released in 1982, he was hitting rock bottom after a decade of substance abuse and erratic behavior, much of it kick started by his rocky marriage with Tammy Wynette. Anniversary doesn't explicitly tackle any of this -- although some of the songs were written with these events in mind -- but it does something better: it dramatizes it, largely due to Sherrill's near-operatic productions and the song sequencing. The first half of the album starts with songs of devotion, and they slowly give way to songs about heartbreak and loss, ending with the remarkable second half of the record where the songs find Jones broken and alone, drinking and pining for his lost love, even from beyond the grave.
