| Tull At It's Best I love this CD. I'm a TULL fan for 35 years. This has all my favorites. Highly reccommend it. By dzenkel (Rochester, NY USA) |
| great revisit...noticable weak vocals... I love this album, Jethro Tull is musically genius and amazingly deep. The original studio album Aqualung was much more of a rocker album, not as deep. But a classic all the same. They do some great changes to certain songs (the whole first half to hymn 43 is a soft but driven accoustic amendment but then after a fantastic flute solo it slams right into the guitar crushing original sound, but for the most part they keep it close to the original. I hate to give J-Tull anything but 5 stars. A fanboy would be an accurate term for me but Ian Anderson's vocals have degraded alot since 1987 and though he tries every modern vocalizer trick in the book and forces his voice like never before, they just don't sound good here. It's as if his ability to belt out a note is completely gone, his voice just gives out. And he's not exactly known for high notes, anything that requires a shout or light high note....his voice goes out almost every time. He's still ok, and any jethro tull fan will probably be content. But don't expect that powerful belting voice he used to have in the 70's and early 80's. Do expect some of the finest musicianship, that is something with Jethro that you can always bank on. | Must cd This live set contains the best "My God" I have ever heard..!! I don't understand user "dzenke" who writes Highly reccomended with 1 Star..!!! If it's a mistake update the review please..!! By p.vigano (Italy) |
| Classic songs and performance. I'm guessing that the first reviewer didn't realize that one star was the worst and five stars was the best. His comments are five star. Oh well. His taste is what counts and he has good taste. If you like the original then you will love this live CD. Great songs, classically done. You will not be disappointed. | For Completists only The band rocks out on this "live" cd recorded in a studio for radio and they show great chops esp. Martin Barre's axe work, but Ian's vocals are still weak and fail to carry the songs. Proceeds go charities as stated in the liner notes. It's worth having the disc just for that.
