Given his associations with Def Jux's El-P and his 10-plus years as a presence in the rap underground, Murs has plenty of cred to his name. His 2006 release, MURRAY'S REVENGE, is one of his most assured, and finds the MC balancing between his experimental tendencies and more mainstream hip-hop values. With help from producer 9th Wonder, Murs lays down rhymes that address topics that, while standard for rap, are treated with an intelligence and sense of wit not often found in the mainstream.

Murray's Revenge 3:16
Sorry, it's just flatout better. 3:16 had some dull moments, on the other hand 'Murray's Revenge' had only 1 weak song. You can't go wrong with either, and I would recommend getting both. 'Murray's Revenge' is that get-at-you type record. Murs attacks each track with that raw emotion, there are no gimmicks here folks. Murs is even more serious this time around. That is why it's better than 3:16. Submitted by Culture (revisited for a 3rd time) (Queens, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
West Coast Flava for the Ears Murs really brought the goodies on 'Murray's Revenge'. This lp doesn't touch the greatness of '3:16', but it's still candy for the ears. I don't think anyone else from the Living Legends is ever going to come out as hard as Murs. If you don't have this album already, you should cop it. Finest of west coast hip hop. after many listens, and a few months later after my first/original review of this album. I'm now convinced this is the best album to drop in 06'. Lyrically it's Murs best effort to date, the dude has grown so much the last couple of years, props is defintely long overdue. Submitted by Culture (Revisisted) (Queens, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Murray's Revenge album
$15.05 In Little Brother's music, the North Carolina group makes a specific point to highlight the more refined aspects of mid-'90s hip-hop. Basing its 2002 sound upon the foundation previously established by the likes of Pete Rock, A Tribe Called Quest, Jay Dee, and Black Star, Little Brother makes somewhat of a political statement by applying such standards to this modern age. The Listening does an exceptional job of proving that soulful meditations have indeed retained their traditional relevancy within the contemporary realms of rap. 9th Wonder's production leads the charge with distinct ...

Murray's Revenge music CDs
$12.59 Donuts was made on a hospital bed and in a home studio, on a stripped-down setup with a stack of vinyl. Released on its maker's 32nd birthday, three days before he passed away, the album has a resonance deeper than anyone could've hoped for or even imagined. Some who were close to Dilla have said that there are hidden messages in the samples, the track titles, and who knows where else. It's impossible not to speculate about some things, like the track titled "Don't Cry," the looped "broken and blue" from a version of "Walk on By," the presence of Eddie Kendricks singing "My people, hold on," or the fact that there are 31 tracks, a possible signal that Dilla survived a little longer than he expected. Then again, for every possible message, there are two or three elements that could've been designed to throw any analysis off its trail. After all, if there's one single image that the disc brings to mind, it's that of Dilla goofing off, having fun with some of his favorite records, ...

| | Red Flag Naive Art CD (1989) Spec Edit
Murray's Revenge music CDs
$10.59 The Liverpool duo Red Flag (brothers Chris and Mark Reynolds) released their debut album, Naïve Art, in 1989. Red Flag, like other late-'80s/early-'90s bands such as Camouflage and Cause & Effect, offer a similar mix of gloomy, synthesizer-driven dance-pop made popular by synth rock kings Depeche Mode. Derivative yet melodic, Naïve Art is a decent debut, though it eventually runs out of steam. Red Flag's obvious debt to Depeche Mode is immediately apparent in the minor club hits "If I Ever" and "Russian Radio." Though the production is a bit rough around the edges, the combination of cold synth beats and the emotionless vocal approach (similar to Depeche's Martin Gore) makes perfect dancefloor fodder for the disaffected goth pop club crowd. Like Depeche Mode's best work, what makes Naïve Art bearable is Red Flag's obvious gift of songcraft. Both "If I Ever" and "Russian Radio" are comparable to some of Depeche's best work, and although much of Naïve Art sounds the same after a while, the album ...
