Forest Is My Throne/Yggdrassill album
$10.69 Often cited as the first true death metal record ever released (Florida's Death had been around just as long but would only make their vinyl debut a few years later), Possessed's Seven Churches took thrash metal's intensity to new levels of brutality. With song titles like "Burning in Hell," "Satan's Curse," ...

| | Story Of The Year Page Avenue CD (2003) Parental Advisory
Forest Is My Throne/Yggdrassill songs
$10.49 Story of the Year emerged straight off the streets of St. Louis, MO, and though they may have released their debut album on Maverick Records, theirs is no corporate background. They put endless efforts into recording and releasing their own independent EPs, building up their own fan base, and even shooting their own videos before the big leagues took notice. Story's sound on PAGE AVENUE has elements of emo, but there's an edge that's far too jagged for them to be comfortably placed in that camp. Certainly there are tight arrangements, spot-on vocal harmonies, and carefully wrought hooks amid their high-energy, punk-derived sound. However, ...
| | Chicago What's It Gonna Be Santa? CD (2003)
Forest Is My Throne/Yggdrassill album
$6.99 Principally recorded at A & M, Hollywood, California; Rumbo, Canoga Park, California and Gold Mine Studios, Woodland Hills, California in 1998. Originally released on Columbia (3035). Includes liner notes by David Millman.
The 2003 edition of Chicago's Christmas album (now subtitled WHAT'S IT GONNA BE SANTA?) includes the entirety of the band's 1998 Christmas release CHICAGO 25: CHRISTMAS, and adds no less than six newly recorded tracks. Produced by the legendary Phil Ramone (the original sessions featured E Street band keyboardist Roy Bittan at the helm), the new tracks feature more of the group's unique interpretations of holiday chestnuts.
Rather than tired re-treads of the same old songs, the versions on this album generally benefit from radically reconfigured arrangements that often make the songs unrecognizable until the lyrics come in. This approach works splendidly, breathing new life and excitement into the well-worn genre of December-themed tunes. Throughout, Chicago seamlessly weaves a Yuletide tapestry of its trademark horns, vocal harmonies, and jazzy chord changes, which allows this album to rank with the group's best work.
20 Christmas classics wrapped in one irresistible package, remastered and expanded with 6 previously unreleased tracks, 'Winter Wonderland', 'Jolly Old St. Nicholas', 'This Christmas', ...
| | Yes Drama CD (1980) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Forest Is My Throne/Yggdrassill CD music
$6.35 It was widely assumed that when vocalist/songwriter Jon Anderson left Yes at the end of the '70s, the band was doomed. Most folks forgot that bassist/composer Chris Squire was the other founding member of the band, and he had as much to do with their sound as Anderson. It was surprising enough when the band decided to continue with a new vocalist and keyboardist. It was even more surprising when the new members turned out to be Trevor Horn (later a famed pop producer) and Geoff Downes (who would soon depart with Steve Howe for Asia). And it was downright shocking when the resultant album DRAMA turned out to be a great one.
While Horn's voice is in the same general range as Anderson's, he tends to blend more with the vocals of Howe and Squire for a distinctive three-part harmony sound. Similarly, the individual instrumental statements of Howe and Downes avoid grandstanding in favor of the group dynamic. Consequently, DRAMA is one of Yes' most direct, concise offerings, full of relatively short songs that still maintain all the Yes hallmarks. Anderson diehards should leave their inhibitions at the door.
For this one album, ex-Buggles Geoffrey Downes and Trevor Horn were drafted in to replace Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman. It rocks harder than other Yes albums, and for classically inclined fans, it was a jarring departure; but it was a harbinger of Yes and Asia albums to come. A newly emboldened Chris Squire lays down aggressive rhythms with Alan White, and Steve Howe eschews his usual acoustic rags and flamenco licks for a more metallic approach, opting for sheets of electric sound. Prime cuts include the doom-laden "Machine Messiah" and the manic ska inflections of "Tempus Fugit." Despite the ...
