Veering between days of relentless searching and nights of alcohol and drug induced extremes, William Keane (Damian Lewis) teeters on the edge of sanity. He is desperately searching for his 6-year-old daughter, who has been missing for months. Then one day, he meets a financially strapped young woman, Lynn Bedik (Amy Ryan), and her 7-year-old daughter, Kira (Abigail Breslin). As he becomes increasingly attached to the child, the story moves to a whole new level of poignancy and tension, especially as it emerges that Keane’s daughter may never have existed at all. Director Lodge Kerrigan plunges us directly into Keane's profoundly unsettled universe. British actor Damian Lewis (BAND OF BROTHERS) gives a stunning lead performance in Lodge Kerrigan's powerful drama KEANE. He stars as William Keane, a man whose daughter was recently abducted at the Port Authority in Manhattan, so he patrols the bus depot, recreating in his mind exactly how it happened to see if he can figure out who took her or where she might be. He talks to himself, shouts suddenly, and looks over his shoulder with fear and paranoia, an edgy, twitchy, wholly unnerving, and remarkable performance. When he befriends a down-on-her-luck woman (Amy Ryan) and her young daughter (Abigail Breslin), it is hard to know whether he is just being helpful or whether he has some kind of ulterior motive, as the young girl is about the same age as his missing daughter. Kerrigan makes no judgments about Keane; although it is clear he is suffering from some kind of mental illness, in some ways he represents an everyman. The talented writer-director lets the tale tell itself; there is no score, and he uses only natural sound and lighting. Some of the film was even written while on location in order to make it yet more realistic, which adds to both its horror and its glory. KEANE is like no other movie ever made on the subject of child abduction, a grittily authentic film that will stay with viewers for a very long time. Theatrical Release: SEPTEMBER 9, 2005
This film screened in October 2004 as part of the 42nd New York Film Festival organized by the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
Keane Reviews: "It's a handheld seizure of a movie....It sticks to your memory like a bur."
-- Michael Atkinson, Movieline's Hollywood Life 4 stars out of 5 -- "Together with Lewis' riveting central performance, much of KEANE's power derives from its intensely naturalistic style..."-- Tom Dawson, Total Film "[A] more mature, compassionate treatment of an abiding concern for those marginalised souls and damaged psyches in danger of slipping through the cracks."-- Tom Charity, Sight and Sound "In KEANE, Mr. Kerrigan both gives us a life at the edge of the abyss and pulls off a deft narrative sleight of hand."-- Manohla Dargis, New York Times "KEANE exerts a hair-trigger emotional power....[The film] just about puts us inside the skin of a tender sinner who can't bear to give himself the one thing he needs: mercy."-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly "Kerrigan is without peer at plumbing the violence of the mind."
-- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Keane review
$20.15 The story of a brutal, unemployed butcher at the end of his rope, I STAND ALONE is a violent and dark film exploring the darkness of the human soul. The nameless butcher, just out of prison, looks for a new job. With each rejection he becomes more and more certain that the world is out to get him, leading to stunning acts of violence as the protagonist goes on a hate-filled rampage. Containing graphic sex and violence, I STAND ALONE is a disturbing but powerful look at one man's tormented soul.
Set in France in 1980, a middle-aged ex-con and former butcher tries to salvage a life that has long been on the skids. Plagued by racist, misogynist thoughts and a hair-trigger temper, he looks for a job, tries to borrow money, and attempts to retrieve his daughter from an institution. If you saw this man walking toward you, you'd probably cross the street. Director Gaspar Noe decides, instead, to take a walk inside his brain.

Keane DVD
$6.99 In its chilling opener, THE CLEARING paints a classic portrait of rich man vs. poor man, showing the morning routines of two very similar characters. Though they are both white, middle-aged, and of middle-class stature, the nuances that differentiate them--their houses, their wives, their clothing--jump off the screen with stark clarity. With a slightly jumbled chronology, the subsequent events come not with shock but with devastating realness. Wayne Hayes (Robert Redford) is in his Lexus on his way to work when Arnold Mack (Willem Dafoe) kidnaps him. It all happens calmly with purposeful execution. Mack wants money, and will use Hayes as ransom to get it. The film then turns to Hayes' elegant wife (Helen Mirren, who is a tour-de-force in this quietly emotive role) and well-bred family, who are saddled with a ransom negotiator and FBI surveillance, and are forced to face the tragedy.
With no outright violence, no sudden bursts of surprise, and no wasted time, THE CLEARING is a captivating, masterful suspense thriller. Debut director Pieter Jan Brugge works from a screenplay by Justin Haythe in telling this deeply unsettling tale. Hayes and Mack (the superb and intense pairing of Redford and Dafoe) argue their opposite points of view through conversations about family, morality, and power. Meanwhile, safe at home, Hayes' wife undergoes ups and downs reevaluating her marriage and her love for her husband as investigators dig through the intricacies and secrets of their lives.
Starring Robert Redford, Willen Dafoe, and Helen Mirren, this R rated film is a taut, engrossing thriller about fate, love, and missed opportunities. Redford portrys a self-made tycoon kidnapped and now in the most important negotiation ever - for his life. DVD features include commentary by director Pieter Jan Brugge, screenwriter Justin Haythe, and film editor Kevin Tent, 6 deleted scenes with optional director's commentary, full-length screenplay with 300 stills, and an inside look at the upcoming Hide and Seek.
