This EP contains one song apiece by two of America's most devastating avant-prog-metal outfits. Orthrelm is a duo of drums and guitar: harmless enough on paper, but when the two instrumentalists in question are guitarist Mick Barr (formerly of Crom-Tech) and drummer Josh Blair--guys who play with an exacting, mind-meld precision unheard outside of those who carry "virtuoso" status--then sparks will fly. 64th-note string destruction and bombastic drums weave around one another on the frenetic offering "Pithot 1." Brooklyn's Behold... The Arctopus mine a more traditional progressive rock model, but are no less engaging. Their claim to fame has been guitarist Colin Marston's unique 12-string touch guitar, a trick instrument that enables the player to exact precise finger-tapping solos and glides between notes with ease. Their offering, "Paincave," is best likened to King Crimson on amphetamines: wiry, wound up, but painfully accurate and swarming progressive metal.

Split album
$12.95 Yes folks, Mudhoney is back -- three years after the near-fatal one-two punch of Matt Lukin's resignation from the band and Reprise Records dropping the group from their roster, the founding fathers of grunge have shaken off the dust and recorded Since We've Become Translucent, which oddly enough sounds a bit like the adventurous major-label project the band never bothered to make for Bugs Bunny. Mudhoney still ranks low on the slickness meter on Since We've Become Translucent (the entire album was recorded in eight days), but the band sounds at once heavier and more confident than it did during its major-label tenure, and the addition of horns on three tracks (and violin on one) adds new textures to the classic Mudhoney throb without crushing the band's personality or spirit. (Don't fret -- the often atonal sax on the Stooges-esque "Baby, Can You Dig the Light" could have been pulled straight from side two of Fun House, while "Where the Flavor Is" is a raunchy slice of mutant funk in the manner of Exile on Main Street.) While Guy Maddison is in many respects a stronger bassist than Lukin was, he has the good sense to stay ...

$16.45 Recently there has been quite a buzz on myspace as B$G Entertainment prepares to launch the anticipated surprise that has emerged as THE QUIETT STORME . What started out as a simple quest to catch the attention of famed artist Anita D Baker has now evolved as a full CD album for the up and coming production company based in Decatur Georgia.Although the artist Sandra Sedgwick Williams has in the past published works in various Anthologies and newspapers, such as the Tacoma Facts located in Tacoma, Washington. Ms Sedgwick Williams has also written play and books to include a series of Children's books entitled 'Granny Good's Favorite Bedtime Stories' that have done rather well. The people of Newport News and Hampton, Virginia know her best by her appearances in her One Woman Shows as THE GOOD NEWS POET . As The Good News Poet, Ms Sedgwick Williams was often requested to do many public readings for the Church of God In Christ in Hampton, Newport News and Portsmouth, Virginia.
