COMPACT SNAP!, a collection of the Jam's singles, is an abridged version of the 2-LP set SNAP!, released on Polydor in 1983. The LPs included eight additional songs: "Away From The Numbers", "Billy Hunt", "English Rose", "Mr. Clean", "The Butterfly Collector", "Thick As Thieves", "Man In The Corner Shop" and "Tales From The Riverbank."
Includes an excerpt from Paolo Hewitt's biography of the Jam, "A Beat Concerto."
The Jam started out as a punk band and ended up as a soul band, one of the more eclectic and rewarding journeys found in the rock pantheon this side of The Clash. However, because certain elements remained constant--Paul Weller's stunning lyrics, the energetic rhythm section, the healthy, try-anything attitude--the quality never diminished, it only transformed. COMPACT SNAP! travels the distance from the desperate punk of "In The City" to the equally desperate soul of "Beat Surrender," touching on most of the great moments along the way.
The physical violence depicted in early songs like "Down In The Tube Station At Midnight" eventually gave way to an emotional violence in late-period songs like "The Bitterest Pill (I Ever Had To Swallow)." Weller described the youth of his day almost as skillfully as his hero Pete Townshend had done for the mod generation ten years earlier.
The Jam never caught on in America, forcing Weller to break up the band and form The Style Council, his straight R&B project. It is a shame this strong unit was lost, especially considering that by the time they broke up, the three members had barely hit their mid-twenties and had so much left to say. But as with groups like The Police and The Pixies, perhaps it was for the best. This way, the music is trapped in time, a chunk of great tunes representing the greatest Motown band punk ever witnessed.
UK only double-disc CD set comprises a 29-track collection of their biggest & best hits and is widely accepted as one of the best 'Best-of's' ever including their 4 UK #1's 'Going Underground', 'Start!', 'Town Called Malice' & 'Beat Surrender' alongside fan favourite B-Sides and album tracks plus the exclusive remix of 'Funeral Pyre' and 'That's Entertainment' (Demo). Universal. 2006.

| | Harry Nilsson Harry/Nilsson Sings Newman CD (2000) Bonus Tracks
Compact Snap! songs
$10.49 Digitally remastered by Elliott Federman (SAJE Sound, New York, New York).
This collection of 25 songs combines two full-length releases by singer and songwriter Harry Nilsson, featuring "Nobody Cares About The Railroad Anymore," "Fairfax Rag," "Rainmaker," and includes numerous songs written by Randy Newman, including "Beehive State" and "So Long Dad."
Released in 1970, the same year as Randy Newman's acclaimed second album (12 SONGS), this outing finds Harry Nilsson applying his famed multi-octave vocal range to Newman's witty, finely crafted compositions. (Nilsson, a wonderful songwriter in his own right, had hinted at this collaboration with the inclusion of one Newman song on his previous record, HARRY.) While many of the tunes here would be performed by the more gruff-voiced Newman himself during the course of his first few albums, Nilsson's dynamic, nuanced singing portrays these highly melodic narratives in a much more delicate light.
The two are perfectly suited for one another: with Newman accompanying Nilsson on piano, ...

Compact Snap! songs
$6.69 'Christmas Memories' is my wish to any and all music lovers for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year now and in years to come. This includes an outreach to those whose faith lies both within as well as those whose spirituality stands outside of the Judea-Christian tradition. There is something absolutely beautiful profound and compelling about the music of Christmas in its melodies, its chord structures, and its quite often overexposed lyrics. Seldom heard, for example, is the prelude to 'White Christmas' or the additional verses of 'O Holy Night' which are included here. The elegance and simplicity of the genre is often lost in the highly regimented and restricted versions of commerical flare typically played at shopping malls ad nauseum. Christmas music was my first and most important introduction to both instrumental and vocal interpretationof popular and traditional songs and carries much sentimental as well as inspirational ...

| | Rob Lockart Parallel Lives CD (2007)
Compact Snap! CD music
$12.29 Saxophonist Rob Lockart has been a mainstay of the Los Angeles jazz scene for nearly two decades, working most notably with Chris Walden on a number of projects. Parallel Lives is Lockart's first solo album, an agreeable if rarely spectacular example of unfussy modern jazz that occasionally crosses over into too-smooth fuzak. Lockart mostly sticks to tenor on Parallel Lives, although his lyrical soprano soloing on "Waiting for the Truth" is one of the album's highlights, alongside the extended tenor duel with Bob Sheppard on the closing ...
