Great Cold Distance songs Product Information
Great Cold Distance album for sale by Katatonia was released Apr 04, 2006 on the Peaceville label. Coming three full years after 2003's Viva Emptiness, The Great Cold Distance continues the trend toward the mainstream that Katatonia began with that album. Singer Jonas Renske -- who apparently lost his ability to do the now-clichéd Cookie Monster vocals some years ago due to medical problems -- has refined his voice into a much smoother and, surprisingly, more powerful instrument that's capable of greater emotional shadings. Great Cold Distance CD music contains a single disc with 12 songs. ...See Full Description

I would describe this excelent material like one of the most original music in metal scene. They redefined each sound carefuly, riffs, beat drums, bass and vocals sounds perfect!!! Favorite albums: Brave murder day, Last fair deal gone down and The great cold distance...I recommend My twin an Deliberation EP's too.

This band never dissapoints me ever. This album is very much a continuation of viva emptiness. The rhythms and the time changes combined withthe great melodies and jonas's very unique vocal style makes for yet another KATATONIA masterpiece. As all there work, Discouraged Ones and forward, it is really hard to find any true flaws in what they do. You feel sad, but good when you listen to this.

Katatonia = musical perfection. If you like music that embraces the meaningless of this existence, then check out the Great Cold Distance. They've mastered the art of darm metal. If you still have hope, avoid at all costs.

This is not surprisingly brilliant given the astounding level of creativity breathed into their earlier work such as "Viva Emptiness" and "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" nor is this bloody "beautiful. This is, in fact, the ultimate suicide record as its' sweltering moods sway from desperation, melancholy, and angst to consternation, apprehension and violence. Superbly recorded and executed, the 12 cuts on this record (lacerations really), concurrently conspire to unveil a truly mind altering piece of work. Without a doubt, "The Great Cold Distance" will compromise, infiltrate, and rupture your psyche. "Soil's Song", "Follower" and "In the White" accentuate this album's greatness and further stretch the limitless boundaries of Katatonia's impressive sound. A proper tonic (or is that Kata-tonic) for the failed-at-heart this is and emotion-inducing to the point of tears, depression and sadness. If you are one of the incompleted ones that softly & quietly stir amongst us, you will will be drawn to this like a gun toting Dick Cheney to a wild turkey shoot. If you yearn for life, The Great Cold Distance will make you long for death. If that, my shadowed friends, turns you on, this will most assuredly help to "off yourself". Welcome to the assemby of the lost.

Several years ago I first heard Katatonia and I did not like them. They sounded more like a death metal band (and I am by no means 'a metalhead') so all the growling vocals just did not sit well with me at all and I forgot about this band. However recently I got to hear their new song called "My Twin" and I was stunned to learn that this was the same band I heard years earlier. I had no idea that Jonas had such a melodic and haunting, yet beautiful voice. I was immediately pulled in by the very melodic, almost Tool-esque type vocals and so I bought this album soon after. It is an outstanding piece of work from a band that I originally had no hope for. The songs are still heavier for the most part, but the ethereal vocals make all of the difference. Stand out songs are "My Twin", "Soil's Song", "In The White", "Deliberation", "July" and "Increase", however every song is great on this release. I would strongly recommend this album to fans of Tool/A Perfect Circle and any other band that has a strong sound to it, but is fronted by melodic and hauntingly soothing vocals. If Katatonia keeps this current style and sound, then I cannot wait to hear their next album!
