(4 Customer Reviews)
Arguably Goldfrapp's most accessible and immediately engaging album, SUPERNATURE features the British duo mixing sensual electronica with catchy pop to wonderful effect. Sounding like the result of Ziggy Stardust crash-landing in Prince's studio during a session with Kylie Minogue, this outing sparkles with willful decadence and glamour, opening with the T. Rex-like techno-stomp of "Ooh La La." Alison Goldfrapp's voice often recalls both Minogue and Kate Bush, with the music generally veering towards the dance-floor furor of the former. Though the record does present slow and/or mid-tempo tracks, most notably the shuffling "You Never Know" and the dreamy "Let It Take You," Goldfrapp and Will Gregory's synth-soaked textures are frequently employed to a clubby, crowd-pleasing end, as on the sassy "Lovely 2 C U" and the raucous "Satin Chic." Although much of SUPERNATURE lacks the moody, overtly cinematic atmosphere of earlier Goldfrapp releases, most listeners will be too busy careening around the room to care.
The 2006 U.S. edition of SUPERNATURE features the bonus track "Beautiful," a surging techno-tinged tune on a par with the album's best songs.

Rolling Stone (p.63) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he cabaret tune 'Satin Chic' gets a twist with electric player piano and a twitchy percussive stomp so evil it makes your skin crawl. Toxic and delicious, SUPERNATURE will make you do bad things -- and like it." Rolling Stone (p.106) - Ranked #32 in Rolling Stone's "The Top 50 Albums Of 2006" -- "Goldfrapp exist beyond time and space, in a metropolitan interzone of sleek computer beats and dark melodies..." Magnet (p.99) - "Goldfrapp is the rare dance art-pop band that bleeds artistic integrity without looking back to the '80s for inspiration..." Supernature Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) ooh la la! If you want sex on vinyl here it is. Fun beats, lilting ear-licks for vocals. It's like making love to a neumatic robot. A must have for fun nights with friends. Submitted by Roxanne (Nanaimo, BC, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A definitive album with a great new hybrid sound... An avid fan of Goldfrapp since stumbling across their "Black Cherry" album in late 2004, I waited with eager anticipation for the eraly 2006 release of "Supernature" in the United States. Luckily, I got a preview of the album from the pre-album release of the "Number 1" single.
"Supernature" is a hybrid of sounds and elements from the "Black Cherry" album with more progressive techno-pop rhythms. The ethereal voice of Alison Goldfrapp appears to be more focused and centralized than in previous albums, which certainly is a plus. And like other definitive albums from other great bands/groups, "Supernature" features many different music styles with various tones and undertones that makes this album very grabbing and pleasant to listen to, as opposed to most albums, which feature the same style of music with different speeds, pitches and lyrics.
My favorite Goldfrapp song still is "Crystalline Green" from the "Black Cherry" album, but "Beautiful" is a very close second! Submitted by Michael F. (Mission Viejo, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Supernature album
$9.99 Disc Two is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks as well as multimedia computer files.
When Goldfrapp's debut, FELT MOUNTAIN, appeared in 2000, no one was quite sure how to categorize the music, but that didn't stop fans and critics alike from gushing about it. A collaboration between singer-keyboardist-songwriter Allison Goldfrapp and composer/producer Will Gregory, Goldfrapp is rooted in the heavy-lidded, ambient soundscapes of trip-hop, yet exhibits an equal interest in various other styles ranging from jazz to cabaret to film music.
On FELT MOUNTAIN, Goldfrapp sometimes sounds trapped in an ...
| | Chills Kaleidoscope World CD (1986) (Import) Import; Australia
Supernature CD music
$23.75 KALEIDOSCOPE WORLD contains 10 bonus tracks and represents everything the band recorded through early 1986, including all of the LOST EP, and the I LOVE MY LEATHER JACKET/THE GREAT ESCAPE 12"
KALEIDOSCOPE WORLD, The Chills' 18-track compilation culled from The Chills early and mid-'80s EPs and singles, is highlighted by the song "Pink Frost."
The Chills' Martin Phillipps mixes up melodic pop with elements of garage rock and punk, creating songs with a sweet melancholy all their own. Phillipps has always been the focus of the Chills, writing and singing the band's songs. His group has also rivaled Menudo in its sheer number of personnel changes. In a just world, the Chills would have sold just as many records.
KALEIDOSCOPE WORLD showcases the shifting line-ups and many moods of the early to mid-'80s Chills. "Rolling Moon" captures a mood of shambling joy, its simple, repeated keyboard riff sounding like a distant caravan crossing New Zealand's big-sky country. "Pink Frost" is undoubtedly ...
| | Goldfrapp Black Cherry CD (2003)
Supernature music CDs
$9.95 A striking departure from Goldfrapp's well-received, cinematically atmospheric debut, FELT MOUNTAIN, 2003's BLACK CHERRY finds the British electronica duo cutting loose with a more energetic and dynamic set. The approach allows vocalist Alison Goldfrapp to indulge her inner Debbie Harry, while multi-instrumentalist Will Gregory playfully nods to 1980s synth-pop on saucy, percolating tunes such as "Crystalline Green" and "Train." Though many of BLACK CHERRY's tracks are geared toward the dance floor, particularly the glam-tinged "Strict Machine," the record still has relaxed moments, including the gorgeously swooning title track and the wonderfully dreamy "Deep Honey." ...
| | Goldfrapp We Are Glitter CD (2006)
Supernature songs
$10.19 The aptly named remix collection We Are Glitter takes the singles from Goldfrapp's glam-tastic Supernature in a variety of directions, courtesy of remixers such as the Flaming Lips, Ewen Pearson, and Múm. About half of the reworkings take the songs in an even more dancefloor-oriented direction; the best of these, such as T. Raumschmiere's mix of "Lovely 2 C U" and the DFA's hyper-percussive take on "Slide In," offer a distinctive spin on the originals without obliterating them completely. The other half of We Are Glitter gives these songs more eclectic makeovers: in the Flaming ...
| | Killing Floor CD (1995) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Supernature album
$16.65 The sheer toughness -- and overall derivative -- nature of Killing Floor's debut album, issued six months after Led Zeppelin's debut in 1969 on the Spark label, is a wondrous contrast to the overly slick treatment American blues were given by British artists. All of these tunes, with the exception of one, are revamped versions of songs from the blues canon with different words. The lone "cover" in the set was written by Willie Dixon titled "Woman You Need Love," the tune Zep ripped for "Whole Lotta Love." Despite the fact that this set was issued before by Repertoire, the Akarma version is definitive in that it features the original cover artwork in a heavy cardboard gatefold sleeve, and killer sound. This is a raw, immediate, overdriven, psychedelic blues record that offers an interesting historical counterpoint to the immediate impact of Page and Plant and Co., but it also offers a great contrast to the recent 1990s versions of American groups ...
| | Danny Kirwan Second Chapter CD (1975) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Supernature CD music
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey Buckingham sounds than one would expect, especially since the two guitarists ...

| | Ben Sheehan Soft Landing CD (2008)
Supernature CD music
$10.15 BIOGRAPHY Some artists hire a friend to write their bio. Others use the third-person and hope it sounds like someone else wrote it. I, however, have always been more intrigued by first-person narratives or artist interviews, so with that in mind I’ve decided to interview myself. Think of it like an FAQ, with schizophrenia. How would you describe Soft Landing?
Sentimentality and sarcasm in eleven short-story pop songs. It was produced, recorded, and mixed by Jeff Gruber (Shook-Russo Quartet, Marcus Johnson) at Blue House Productions and mastered by Ted Jensen (Eric Clapton, Jason Mraz) at Sterling Sound. In addition to the brilliant engineers I worked with incredible musicians like Vince Evans (Prince, Bill Withers), Mark Prince (Patti Labelle, Jennifer Holiday), and Michael Bowie (Cassandra Wilson, Abbey Lincoln). When did you begin writing and recording?
Soft Landing is my first album of original material. Before that I made three a cappella CDs with my high school and college groups, as well as a handful of demos. I grew up studying piano and guitar, but I’ve been focusing on songwriting since I was 16.Who are your biggest influences?
My hard drive consists of piano-pop, 90s alt-rock, and acoustic-guitar-playing-white-guys, but while making Soft Landing I listened to the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and country music. My biggest influences, however, are probably the earliest. As a toddler, I was addicted to a tape of Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo performing ‘Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes’, and I watched my dad’s VHS cassettes of Phil Collins and Billy Joel music videos on repeat. I loved Bruce Springsteen, and in preschool I often accompanied myself on toy tennis racquet while singing ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ to my three-year-old classmates, who would either fall asleep or soil themselves. That’s when I realized I wanted to be a performer.Where have you played?
Mostly in Atlanta, Delaware, and the DC area, but I’ve showcased at the Mid-Atlantic and Millennium Music Conferences in Charlotte, NC and Harrisburg, PA. I’ve also done standup, but I prefer using comedy bits or song parodies as breaks in between original songs. My cover repertoire includes 80s, 90s, Classic Rock, Country, Top 40, and acoustic versions of hip-hop and R&B songs (with beat boxing), but I can play many pop songs by ear. What are eleven random facts about you?
I was born in DC but my family moved to Maryland when I was seven. I went to college in Atlanta, and I spent last summer playing at bars along the Delaware shore. At a West Virginia hotel in 1986 I fell asleep in Bill Cosby’s lap for over an hour, and he used the top of my head to sign autographs for everyone at ...
