Stardreamer: Nightsongs & Lullabies songs
$13.49 When Laurie Berkner released a handful of cassettes of Whaddaya Think of That? in 1997, she had no idea that the album would launch her almost immediately into the upper echelon of American children's music performers. These songs were developed in day care classes and summer camp workshops with pre-school children, and it's clear that Berkner's interaction with her young students helped to shape the recordings. Movement and imagination play such a large role in Berkner's music that it's hard to imagine a roomful of children being able to sit still through them. "We Are the Dinosaurs" sets them to stomping and flattening buildings in the chorus ...
| | Blackalicious Blazing Arrow CD (2002) Bonus Track; Japan
Stardreamer: Nightsongs & Lullabies album
$42.69 For progressive hip-hop acts, aesthetic and commercial success seem to rarely walk hand in hand. Blackalicious proves to be an exception to that rule with BLAZING ARROW. Pessimists might suggest that the album's chart placing is due to the impressive array of guest stars, from old-school rap poet Gil Scott-Heron to R&B siren Jaguar Wright and rock-pop fave Ben Harper. While these guests do give an indication of the breadth of influences and styles present here, they are only the tip of the iceberg.
"I'll build my heaven on what is here" Blackalicious offers on "Nowhere Fast," giving both an example of their positive lyrical outlook and indication of the sonic riches so abundant on BLAZING ARROW. An impressive array of sophisticated sonic collage elements, hard-grooving funk rhythms, strings, and free-flowing, intelligent raps are at the heart of this complex-yet-organic ...
| | Cynthia Lynn Douglass Lullabies For The Wee Folk CD (2005)
Stardreamer: Nightsongs & Lullabies CD music
$16.89 Raised in the Middle East, I retreated from my turbulent surroundings through music. After twenty years of classical training on violin, clarinet and renaissance recorders, I feel my most important musical lesson (from my grandfather) was learning to play "from the heart." The Celtic harp is my favorite instrument because of the rich harmonies it creates, the musical way it links the divine and the earthly realms, and the serenity and peace it brings to many of my listeners. While I studied for a brief time at Oberlin Conservatory, music became a hobby for me while pursuing other interesting subjects in college. I completed my undergraduate studies at Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service, with degrees in International Economics and Arabic Studies. Due to an unfortunate accident while at Oberlin College, I was forced to give up the clarinet, and took up the renaissance recorders during my later college years. While performing on recorders years later, I stumbled upon the Celtic harp and at last found my calling. While I am predominately self-taught, I considered Kim Robertson to be my mentor until I developed my own style.I performed on clarinet with the Arlington Symphony Orchestra; the Oberlin Wind Ensemble and Oberlin Orchestra; and the Washington, D.C. Baroque Chamber Orchestra; I performed on renaissance recorders with the Smithsonian Institution Early Music Ensemble (Washington, D.C.) and Classic Winds, a recorder quartet based in San Diego, CA. I performed on Celtic harp, bodhran, and recorders with Silver Strings and Crystal, an Irish band in California. I currently perform both as a soloist and with other Celtic musicians from the Birmingham, AL area.I have regularly visited cancer patients and others with my harp at the Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, CA; and played for terminally ill patients at the San Diego Hospice, San Diego, CA. I also played for the Midtown Nursing Home in Somerset, KY several times -- have given talks about the effects of harp music on the human physiology to the Chief of Staff and other staff members of Scripps Memorial Hospital and to the staff ...
