| | New Orleans Will Rise Again CD
As the birthplace of jazz, deep R&B, and early funk, New Orleans has a musical legacy that other American cities are hard pressed to top, and Night Train Records has brought together a wonderful collection of songs with the city's special stamp all over it. Aaron Neville is here, as is the late Mr. "Mother-in-Law" Ernie-K-Doe, but many of the artists will be unfamiliar to all but the most fervent New Orleans music collectors, and even then many of the tracks are rare and previously unreleased.
But the "obscure" aspect of this collection is part of its charm, as the artists translate the distinctive spice of the Big Easy into a rhythm-heavy language that will make most anyone get up and shake. All proceeds from the sale of the CD will go to the New Orleans Musician's Clinic for post-Hurricane Katrina relief. With a musical tradition this strong, there is little doubt that New Orleans will indeed rise again.
