US post-punk revivalists Interpol's 2002 debut made it possible for a wave of Joy Division copycats to ape those dark-but-danceable sounds of the late-1970s/early-'80s. By 2004, coming off like the bastard offspring of Ian Curtis and Echo & the Bunnymen was a ticket to the top of the charts, even in America. Unsurprisingly, it took the Brits to do it right. The hue and cry over Editors (please observe the absence of an article in their name) and their 2005 launch THE BACK ROOM (released stateside in '06) painted them as the UK Interpol. Nothing could be further from the truth. While Editors display an obvious love for the dark, churning sound of the Chameleons, Joy Division, et al, there's not even a whiff of bandwagon-jumping here. The level of emotional commitment is so palpable, the singing so impassioned, the songwriting so sharp, and the playing so urgent and visceral, that there's no question about the band's sincerity.Rolling Stone (p.65) - "Their debut, THE BACK ROOM, drags Joy Division into a posh bed of dueling guitars and streamlined atmospherics, with songs that touch on death, disease and doomed love." Spin - Ranked #16 in Spin's "The 40 Best Albums of 2006" -- "THE BACK ROOM is a restless, spooky masterpiece, full of stately bass thumps and squealing, otherworldly guitars that swirl and dive." CMJ (p.4) - "The band's single 'Munich' has all the angst and ice, the dispassionate vocals, the brittle guitar wail of Interpol, but with a more dance-worthy beat..." Back Room Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Worth the purchase I bought the cd having only heard Munich & All sparks techno remixes, & I like most of the songs on the cd. AMAZING if you buy this album for anything, buy it for munich, it's te most mind blowing song that I've ever heard. It is a sad song, passionate. The guitars are eerily beautiful, wailing and brittle, full of emotion. Buy this album. Now. If you are eevr going to buy any CD right now, buy this one. Greatest. Music. Ever. | | Arcade Fire Funeral CD (2004)
Back Room CD music
$11.89 This Montreal ensemble's fiery debut is marked by surging guitars, soulful strings, driving drums, brilliant bass lines, and the quavering vocals of married couple Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. The group's song structures careen through a vast territory of musical and personal history, with lyrics warm with memories of childhood neighborhoods and deceased loved ones, resulting in an alternating current of joy and ...
| | Bloc Party Silent Alarm CD (2005)
Back Room music CDs
$10.79 On this immensely appealing debut, SILENT ALARM, the London-based quartet Bloc Party fulfills the promise of their barnstorming 2004 singles "Banquet" and "She's Hearing Voices." Led by magnetic frontman Kele Okereke, the band extracts the most fascinating aspects of the previous 25 years of British indie rock and fuses them into a new entity--complete with smarts and heart--never delving into retro-kitsch or slavish imitation.
Okerere's urgent yelp most often recalls a fired-up incarnation of the Cure's Robert Smith, but the sounds the group creates echo everything from Gang of Four's staccato militarism ("Banquet") ...

Back Room album
$12.09 Almost three years after the Arcade Fire's 2004 full-length debut, FUNERAL, stunned indie-rock fans with its majestic scope and romantic ferocity, the Montreal-based ensemble returned with NEON BIBLE. Although the album lacks the from-out-of-nowhere punch of the former record, it serves as a fitting successor, with the group's sweeping sound enhanced by even more prominent layers of piano, organ, strings, and percussion.
As on FUNERAL, married multi-instrumentalists Win ...

$10.59 For their sophomore outing, AN END HAS A START, the U.K. indie-rock act Editors present another set of brooding, post-punk-inspired songs. | | Paradiso Middle Path CD (2008)
Back Room album
$13.89 Paradiso (Paradiso Turturici) lives and performs in the San Francisco Bay Area, of which he is a native. A producer, composer and musician, Paradiso formed his own music publishing company "5th Element Vibes Music" over a decade ago, and functions under his record label "5th Element Music." A self-taught musician, Paradiso plays various instruments, primarily didjeridoo, Theremin, keyboards and percussion, all of which are included on his 2008 album release, MIDDLE PATH.Paradiso's gift with the didjeridoo was passed through to him by various elders and mentors. His music has been described as 'an anomalous mix of organic and inorganic instruments that when balanced create a therapeutic listening environment. ' (RJ Lannan, New Age Reporter, 2006). Accordingly, Paradiso's parallel pursuit of a spiritual path has led to his current work as a sound therapist, massage therapist and holistic health practitioner. Through many one-on-one sessions with clients he has developed a unique musical healing method. In a safe, relaxing environment, Paradiso 'plays' the patient's body with musical vibration using the instrument for which he is best known, the Didjeridoo, an indigenous instrument from Australia. Paradiso owns a large variety of didjeridoos, each producing a different sound. He plays intuitively, and, as he puts it, "Spirit plays through me!" He adds, "I believe music can heal the mind, body and spirit and liberate us. My vision is to inspire all of us to rediscover our oneness ...
