| | Lebron Brothers Salsa Y Control CD Lebron Brothers Discography of CDs
This famous LP assured the band's endurance; in the early '70s, when the Cuban influence had considerable strength, the band withstood the competition and successfully managed to introduce the '70s salsa style. The title tune helped assure acceptance of the term "salsa" at the beginning of the concept's expression. "Salsa y Control" is also one of the band's most enduring hits. "Tu Llegaste a Mi Vida" brought romance in its own particular way. Most of the repertoire has a dragged-out feeling that the band uses to its advantage; in a sense, this reflected the musical tendencies of salsa at the time -- rhythmic but effectively sentimental. One of the most popular albums of the early '70s, the album features vocals by Pablo, José, and Angel Lebron. ~ José A. Estévez, Jr.
Personnel: José Lebron (vocals, piano); Angel Lebron (vocals, bass guitar); Pablo Lebron (vocals); Gabe Gill (alto saxophone); Herman Sandana (tenor saxophone); Louis Maldonado, Pete Maldonado (trumpet); Frankie Lebron (congas); Carlos Lebron (bongos, percussion); Tito O'Casio (timbales).

There are few musicians whose music has indisputably advanced humanity. Reggae figurehead Bob Marley--a songwriter, poet, activist, and visionary--is one of them. The idea that a single-disc collection could represent the depth, breadth, and power of Marley's achievement is far-fetched, but LEGEND makes an excellent attempt. Every single one of its tracks is outstanding, and the artist's different faces--revolutionary ("Get Up Stand Up"), romantic ("Is This Love"), devout Rastafarian ("Buffalo Soldier"), and prophet ("One Love/People Get Ready") are equally represented.
In addition to his moving message of love and unity, Marley is a master songwriter, as the timelessness of songs like "Stir It Up," "I Shot the Sheriff," and the gorgeous, poignant "Redemption Song" proves. Of course, a true sampling of Marley's output would require some early ska material, the Wailer's debut (CATCH A FIRE), the definitive NATTY DREAD, and his later-period opus EXODUS, but LEGEND provides a highly satisfying, if brief, overview of Marley's genius. Salsa Y Control music CDs
$11.39 CELTIC WOMAN is the brainchild of David Downes, a composer/conductor who was heavily involved with the American production of RIVERDANCE. Not surprisingly, all of the lights, drama, and musical bombast of that esteemed show are present on this production as well. Instead of showcasing legions of dancers, however, CELTIC WOMAN puts the emphasis on the rich heritage of traditional and contemporary Irish music, as performed by five talented female performers from varying musical backgrounds.
Though the melodies are often extremely simple and unadorned, the production is just as lush and majestic as anything on Yanni's LIVE AT THE ACROPOLIS, and should appeal to fans of that disc. ...

| | Sheila Chandra Indipop Retrospective CD (2003) Enhanced CD
Salsa Y Control album
$11.99 Recorded between 1984 & 2001. Includes liner notes by John Diliberto.
Much of Sheila Chandra's artistic career has been centered around the Indipop label (run by her partner, Steve Coe). After her initial success with Monsoon, and bookending her time with Real World, it's been a home for her since 1984. This 12-track collection illustrates both the cohesion and development of her style. After the exquisite vocal of "Lament Of McCrimmon/Song Of The Banshee" that opens the disc, this collection moves into the more abstract form that's typified much of her singing, and evidences a lot more Indian influence than elsewhere in her work, whether from 1985 or 2001 -- it's stayed very much a constant. What is interesting that that, toward the end of the disc, she puts in "Village Girl," a sharp contrast to everything that's gone before, inasmuch as it has more of a conventional song structure, and seems simplistic and naïve next to her other work. But it's followed by the previously unreleased "Crescent Silver Scythe," whose 2003 copyright can only refer to release, since it sounds as dated as "Village Girl." To be fair, ...

Salsa Y Control CD music
$16.05 VOCALCITY contains only six tracks that clock in at nearly 77 minutes in length. Delay takes these compositions through gradual changes as subtle yet powerful as those of a sun setting over a city skyline. $12.19 Marc Reece is first and foremost an exceptionally gifted guitar player.
