This album is a tribute to, and in memory of, "DIMEBAG" DARRELL. It was absolutely one of his favorite projects. He loved the people involved and the music that transpired.Rebel Meets Rebel is not only the title of the CD, but the most apt description of what you are about to hear. There is no other music like it in the world. It is a combination of one of the world's greatest Heavy Metal Bands and David Allan Coe, one of the world's most outspoken, hell raizin, country outlaws of the past century. The combination of DAC and CFH (Cowboys from Hell) is explosive and works flawlessly to produce a new musical genre as yet un-named.Get ready for a hell raizin' time ... the boys are kickin' ass!!!!
Rebel Meets Rebel: Rex Brown (bass guitar); David Allan Coe, Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul. Personnel: David Allan Coe (vocals); Dimebag Darrell (guitar); Vinnie Paul (drums). Additional personnel: Joey Floyd (fiddle); Rex Mauney (keyboards); Hank Williams III (background vocals). Recording information: Chasin Jason Studios, Dalworthington Gardens, TX (1999-2003). Photographer: Chad Lee. In the 1970s, you had "outlaw country," in the '80s, "cowpunk," but they'll need a new and original stylistic descriptor for 2006's REBEL MEETS REBEL, a no-holds-barred collaboration between hard-living, outlaw country legend David Allan Coe and three-quarters of Texas thrash-metal heroes Pantera. Recorded before Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott's shocking onstage murder in 2004, this album matches Abbott's slamming metal riffs with Coe's unapologetic tough-guy stance, a combination that makes perfect thematic and musical sense. It's a real kick in the teeth. Rebel Meets Rebel is the result of a lengthy collaboration between Pantera's rhythm section and outlaw country legend David Allan Coe. The partnership began in the late '90s with Coe and Dimebag Darrell meeting in Fort Worth and discovering they were kindred spirits. They decided to record together in 1999, and over the next four years, Coe, Dimebag, and Pantera's rhythm section recorded sporadically. Those sessions were released as Rebel Meets Rebel in 2006, two years after Dimebag's tragic on-stage murder while playing with the group Damageplan. Rebel Meets Rebel in no way attempts to blend the styles of heavy metal and country -- rather it just throws them together, one on the top of the other, at times outweighing each other. The result is two completely different sounds crashing together and creating something entirely new out of the smashed remnants. The album's first track, "Nothin' to Lose," hits hard with a White Zombie-esque intro, featuring a moaning female and choppy distorted guitar, leading way to the musical collision. On first listen, the song sounds awkward -- as if someone had spliced a Pantera song together with a David Allan Coe one on their home computer. It doesn't mesh well, and the bass seems too sharp and tinny. But after listening to the album a few times, it starts to make more sense. Dimebag's ability to switch between piercing thrash and beautifully dark melodies is one of his attributes that garnered him such acclaim, and it's there on Rebel Meets Rebel. And he is complemented by not only his bandmates but by guest performers, like Joey Floyd's fiddle breakdown on "Rebel Meets Rebel" and added metal growl from Hank Williams III on "Get Outta My Life." Coe and the three metal musicians reach common ground on the Spanish-flared tunes "Panfilo" and "Heartworn Highway," as well as on "Arizona Rivers," with its beautiful acoustic guitar taking center stage. The musicians relate to each other, and these songs are the most successful at bringing together Coe's bluesy country and Pantera's musical talent. It's in these three standouts that Coe's vocals and Dimebag's melodic guitar riffs and licks are at their finest on the album. Lyrically, the album is all over the place. While the lyrics are often boisterous and cocky (e.g., "One Night Stands"), tCMJ (p.28) - "Coe's twangy bellow complements Dime's signature, groovy riffs on honky-tonk jams like 'Nothing To Lose' and 'Get Out Of My Life'." No Depression (p.116) - "[A] full-blown celebration of hard rock/hard country synergy....The solos may be metal, but the execution is pure Skynyrd on steroids." Excellent Collaboration Talk about your genre mash-ups, this collaboration between outlaw country singer David Allan Coe, the late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell and his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul, is a raucous good time and not as unlikely as it might seem when you consider the Akron, OH-born Coe got his start as a performer opening for Grand Funk Railroad.
It's all about drinking ("No Compromise"), drugging ("Cowboys Do More Dope") and sex ("One Nite Stands"), but also loss of innocence ("Arizona Rivers") and even Native American rights ("Cherokee Cry"), where Coe belies the charges of racism that have followed him around since his notorious 1982 song "N*gger F*cker," which he always denied.
The title track adds in a mean sawing fiddle and some pumping keyboards, while "Get Outta My Life" features a cameo by yet another genre-buster in Hank Williams III. It's a posthumous showcase for ace axe man Dimebag's snake-winding riffs, which wrap themselves around Coe's hell-bent persona, as the one-time Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy is right at home with the metallic crunch at the heart of his rebel country yell, as the contemplative "N.Y.C. Streets" adds a somber expletive-laced epitaph to a left-field project that turns out to be right over the middle of the plate. Submitted by Roy Trakin (blogcritics.org) Was This Review Helpful? Sorry, not feeling it. Mkay, when I first heard that the remaining members of Pantera and Outlaw Country singer David Allan Coe were forming a new band that would mix Country with Metal, I was excited as hell. But when I finally got around to listening to it my opinion changed drastically. And I am saying this as both a lover of Country music and hardcore melt your face off Metal. I just don’t think that David Allan Coe's voice contrasts very well with the heavy guitar and quick paced percussion. Both sound good, but for some reason when I listen I want either the music to slow down, or the singing to speed up. David Allan Coe has a very mellow voice, it isn't at all rough and edgy like the music. Though the idea was truly intriguing, for some reason the sound of the music just didn't quite settle right with me. Submitted by gummybearbarron (Basalt, CO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

The line-up has changed many a time as the band has been resurrected through the years but the enigmatic lead singer Wayne Hussey has always remained constant. On Friday, February 29th, 2008, The Mission took to the stage to perform a memorable and momentous gig, performing Children live in it's entirety. Children was originally released 1988 reaching #2 in the UK charts and includes the singles, 'Tower Of Strength' and 'Beyond The Pale'.
