(2 Customer Reviews)
The debut from contemporary country singer Danielle Peck (released on Toby Keith's Big Machine label) marries country twang with mainstream pop smarts, resulting in an album that--while not reinventing the country wheel--is full of sharp, immediately accessible tunes. Peck herself had a hand in composing nearly all of the songs here, which range from anthemic celebrations ("Isn't That Everything"), to barbed narratives ("Sucks to Be You"), to straight-up sultry crooners ("Kiss You On the Mouth"). Peck also takes a page from the Gretchen Wilson "redneck woman" book, resulting in an album that's as strong on character as it is on quality material.

Danielle Peck
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's ...
| | Steve Holy Brand New Girlfriend CD (2006)

$15.65 Nashville singer-songwriter Steve Holy's third album maintains the standards set by his first two: mainstream country-pop with a strong hint of '50s rock-&-roll influence, especially in ...
| | Trick Pony R.I.D.E. CD (2005)
Danielle Peck
$7.29 R.I.D.E., the title of Trick Pony's third album, stands for "Rebellious Individuals Delivering Entertainment." Of course, in 2000's Nashville, rebelling could often mean playing straight-up old-school country while not taking oneself too seriously, two pursuits at which Trick Pony excels. A slice of good-time barroom country rock, R.I.D.E. manages to sound staunchly traditional while never sticking too close to a formula. Primary lead vocalist Heidi Newfield comes off like a bawdy mix of Tanya Tucker, Loretta Lynn, and Mae West, delivering the pure honky-tonk of "Ain't Wastin' Good Whiskey On You" and the tears-in-your-beer emotion of "When I Fall" with equal panache. It's guitarist Keith Burns, however, who delivers the record's most accessible song with "Sad City," which features a guest vocal from Hootie & The Blowfish's Darius Rucker. A mix of sawdust, sweat, and jumbotron-ready party spirit, this R.I.D.E. is guaranteed to be a wild one.
Audio Mixers: Bob Campbell-Smith; Ed Seay; Brian Tankersley.

| | Miranda Lambert Kerosene CD (2005)
Danielle Peck
$9.99 Many contestants on AMERICAN IDOL and similar TV shows go on to greater success, but due to their relative lack of experience, often have a hard time finding their niche. Not Miranda Lambert--when KEROSENE was released in 2005, the NASHVILLE STAR third-place winner was barely out of her teens, but she had already spent years honing her craft in bars. In addition to being a confident vocalist and strong-willed businessperson, Lambert is a crafty songwriter whose work is easily on par with that of Nashville veterans twice her age.
The title track is a pounding, attitude-filled country-rocker reminiscent of John Cougar Mellencamp's "Rain on the Scarecrow." (That this diminutive young blonde woman can spit out lines like "Trade the truth for a lie/Cheatin' ain't really a crime" so convincingly is also startling.) "I Can't Be Bothered" is straight-up honky-tonk, replete with whining steel guitar, Buck Owens-worthy twangy Telecaster, and a jaunty ...

| | Faith Hill There You'll Be: Best Of CD (2001) Import
Danielle Peck
$32.59 This "best of" set is a must for fans of Tim McGraw's better half, as it features bonus remixes of "Breathe" and "Way You Love Me," as well as a previously unissued cover of Bruce Springsteen's "If I Should Fall Behind."
Released in 2001, There You'll Be: The Best of Faith Hill was a collection designed for international markets, intending to introduce the American superstar to the world. As such, it presents her as a pop star, including remixes of "Breathe" and "The Way You Love Me" (that are nevertheless also present in their original versions), as well as her biggest crossover hits from Breathe, Faith, and It Matters to Me. This doesn't contain all of her hits, ...
