A wild and tangled crime adventure involving gangsters, Irish gypsies, and a dog that can't stop swallowing things, SNATCH is both hilarious and action-packed. Jewel thief Franky Four Fingers (Benicio Del Toro) is in London en route to New York, where he will deliver an 86-karat diamond to his boss, Avi (Dennis Farina). A compulsive gambler, Franky is tempted into an illegal boxing scam, becoming the unwitting suspect in a robbery committed by bumbling pawnshop owners Vinny (Robbie Gee), Sol (Lennie James), and their oaf-of-a-driver, Tyrone (Ade). Meanwhile, novice boxing promoter Turkish (Jason Statham), and his dim-witted partner, Tommy (Stephen Graham), move into the "big time" with twisted crime boss, Brick Top (Alan Ford), and Mickey, a mumbling, unhinged Irish gypsy boxer (Brad Pitt). Thrown into the proceedings are killers Bullet Tooth Tony (Vinnie Jones) and Boris the Blade (Rade Sherbedgia). A stylized work with a gritty urban soundtrack and a cast of intricately developed characters, SNATCH delivers superb and witty dialogue while depicting one of the more zany, complex diamond heists ever portrayed in film.

Theatrical release: August 23, 2000 (U.K.); January 19, 2001, (U.S.). The budget for SNATCH was only $6 million. Shot in London, with principal photography for the film beginning in October of 1999. After Guy Ritchie's first feature, LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS, Brad Pitt phoned the director and asked to be in his next movie. Pitt, who normally gets paid around $20 million for a film, agreed to a much smaller fee and the same trailer as the other actors. "He was one of the lads right from the start," said Ritchie about Pitt, "a top boy who doesn't mince around." Pitt's character, Mickey, was originally supposed to be a huge, overweight Irishman, but the part was altered somewhat when he signed on to the film. On the set, Ritchie devised a "fine system" to keep a tight ship: fining cast and crew for everything from having mobile phones, arriving late, taking naps during shooting, to being "cheeky" and unfunny, and moaning. "Unfortunately, I was one of the ones who suffered the most," said Ritchie of his system. Ritchie has said that casting was key: "The roles needed coarseness as well as credibility. It's no good getting Shakespearean actors to play violent cockney gang members." Scottish actor Ewan Bremner makes a cameo as Mullet. British electronica artist Goldie appears briefly as Lincoln. The film was originally titled DIAMONDS, but the title was taken by another film before production began, so Ritchie had to change it to SNATCH. The Austin Chronicle named SNATCH one of the 10 best films of 2000.

4 stars Pitt, Farina in fine form
"Snatch" is director Guy Ritchie's best effort to date. Brad Pitt (as Mickey One Punch) and Dennis Farina (as Avi) head a terrific cast. Alan Ford is priceless as ultrathug Brick Top and Jason Statham as his opposite number, Turkish. And let's not forget a tremendous soundtrack, with cuts by Oasis, Massive Attack, the Stranglers and Mirwais.

Cult director Jess Franco (VAMPYROS LESBOS, LOVE LETTERS OF A PORTUGUESE NUN) has been the prolific force behind many of the better B-movie efforts to be released since the early 60s. During this time, he garnered the supreme honor, along with Luis Bunuel, of being deemed one of the most dangerous filmmakers by the Catholic Church. This 2002 sequel to 1996s KILLER BARBYS is characterized by Franco's recent adoption of the digital video medium, which he handles with aplomb. The story follows real-life rock band the Killer Barbys as they rehearse for their upcoming tour, when chaos is unleashed with the arrival of Irina (Franco's wife, Lina Romay), a director of the Transylvania tourism office. She has brought with her the corpse of Count Dracula, which Barbys frontwoman Silvia Superstar adopts as the subject of her new song, "Wake Up." The vampire awakens--seduced by Silvia's imperative--and wreaks fear and destruction upon Silvia and everyone in her life, while Irina calls upon vampire hunter Dr. Seward ...

ELEKTRA: In this sequel to DAREDEVIL, the Marvel Comic series is drawn upon once again to present the mysterious and powerful character of Elektra (Jennifer Garner), a professional assassin with special skills. Clad in a red suit, she relies on her mental acuity, which allows her to see a short distance into the future. With this talent she can stalk her victims and kill them before they are even aware of her presence. She is cold and introspective to a fault, shunning all human contact in favor of meditating on her powers. Even so, she is haunted by the memories of her youth, when as a small girl she witnessed her mother's brutal murder by a mysterious horned enemy. When a mission leads her to a father and daughter, Mark (Goran Visnjic) and Abby (Kirsten Prout), something deep inside her causes her to abort the assassination. But before she knows it, a team of the highly dangerous ninja experts called the Hand are sent to take out Mark and Abby themselves. The leader of the Hand, Kirigi (Will Yun Lee), has a greater objective in mind for Mark and Abby, and Elektra decides to defend the helpless twosome until she solves the mystery behind why the Hand wants them dead. DUDE WHERE'S MY CAR: Jesse (Ashton Kutcher) and Chester (Seann William Scott) got really wasted last night. The fridge is packed with pudding, their girlfriends--"The Twins"--are ticked off, and somehow Jesse's car has disappeared. So the hapless stoners set out to find the car, which happens to have their girlfriends' anniversary presents in it. But they soon discover that losing the car isn't half the story. High school hottie Christie (Kristy Swanson) is mysteriously hot for Jesse, Chester is a favorite customer at the local topless club, and they owe a suitcase full of money to a transvestite stripper. On top of all that, they're being pursued by a minivan full of geeks, horny "space babes," and a couple of "totally gay" Scandinavian dudes--all ...
