Japanese-only reissue of what is considered to be one of the finest releases of Duke Pearson's respected career. Originally released on Blue Note in 1967, this release features Pearson backed by an all-star octet featuring trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, trombonist Garnett Brown, altoist James Spaulding, Jerry Dodgion on alto and flute, Stanley Turrentine on tenor, bassist Gene Taylor and drummer Grady Tate. Pearson was an accomplished pianist who played a big part in shaping the Blue Note label's hard bop direction in the 1960s as a producer but here he really shines as a writer and arranger as well. Six tracks including 'Chili Peppers', 'Make It Good', 'Rotary' and 'Los Malos Hombres'. Blue Note.
Personnel: Duke Pearson (piano); Freddie Hubbard (trumpet); Garnett Brown (trombone); Jerry Dodgion (alto saxophone, flute); James Spaulding (alto saxophone); Stanley Turrentine (tenor saxophone); Gene Taylor (bass); Grady Tate (drums). Producer: Francis Wolff. Reissue producer: Michael Cuscuna. Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on September 13, 1967. Originally released on Blue Note (BST 84267). Includes original liner notes by Nat Hentoff. Duke Pearson rises to the challenge of writing for an all-star octet (with trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, trombonist Garnett Brown, altoist James Spaulding, Jerry Dodgion on alto and flute, Stanley Turrentine on tenor, bassist Gene Taylor, drummer Grady Tate, and the leader/pianist), contributing colorful frameworks and consistently challenging compositions. The set is full of diverse melodies (the CD reissue has a previously unissued take of "Los Malos Hombres") played by a variety of distinctive soloists; many of these songs deserve to be revived. This is one of the finest recordings of Duke Pearson's career. ~ Scott Yanow
Q (8/94, p.123) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...the music proclaims its label and era, with tight ensemble work, brassy polish and gutsy emotional mood..." Down Beat (p.73) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "The playing throughout is decidedly crisp, and the five-horn octet happily light-footed. It all wears very well." $15.49 Although they would later hit it big in the U.S. with hits like "I'm Not in Love" and "The Things We Do For Love," 10cc put out a series of catchy, sardonic, and very British singles in their home country in the early '70s. This generous offering includes all the singles off their 1972 debut (including the '50s pastiche "Donna" and the mini-opera "Rubber Bullets") and its terrific '74 follow-up, SHEET MUSIC. Released as part of the ongoing 7T's series on RPM, 10cc's The UK Records Singles Collection is a tight, 14-track collection of the band's earliest recordings -- those for UK Recordings, naturally. This was before the big crossover hits started ...

$10.65 I was born in Houston , TX , Third Coast raised, from H-Town to New Orleans and lastly Atlanta . Been a music head every since I could remember. Before I could even put sentences together, my mother says I was an entertainer. Growing up listening to all types of music; R&B, Soul, Blues, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Rock, and Hardcore Rap. I love music, all types, as long as it’s good, I’ll buy it, no discrimination. I did my first rap on a Home Alone Talk boy, no pen and pad at the age of nine. Nothing to serious, but always knew it was in me. At that age I was jamming tapes; Mystical, 2 Pac, Biggie, UGK, and Da Brat. Started to hone my skills at thirteen, when I meet Dre Skeez. Back then I went by PlayboyFyah and he went by Peppaboy. We formed FMB (Forever My Brothers) and started making mixtapes, on actual cassette tapes. We would jack a beat, remix it and put the vocals down. At fifteen I met Sean T, he was a sick New Jersey rapper; at the time he went by Shocking Sean. We put him in FMB and we all started recording together on the same tracks, now we were on CD’s. By this time I had change my name to Young J.A.Y, and really started to come into my unique style. My favorite thing to do was battle, and every time I did, I would destroy my opponent. So at my school (South Cobb High) I was known as the freestyle king, I never wrote any of my freestyles or memorized them, all of them were ...
