Classic Rock Great
David Bowie's "Let's Dance" is a stretch for a generally metal loving fan. But the double duo of "Modern Love" and "China Girl" back to back is perhaps the greatest classic rock combo to date. A definite success for Bowie.

The Last Great Bowie Album
In my opinion, this is the last truly classic Bowie album...after all these years it still stands up as one of his best...alongside the earlier works. No Bowie fan should be without this one.

Bowie Of The 80s
This album is the definitive Bowie of the 80s. The blockbuster singles Let's Dance, Modern Love and China Girl say it all. They're easily amongst his most memorable hits.

bowie not at his best
when i refer to davids' 80's catalog i am excluding scary monsters. because that album (scary monsters) is a classic and is his last great album. he admits that during the 80's he sold out to make money. i can respect that because he admits it, unlike alot of other artists. the album has some strong tracks but as a whole is not very cohesive. the first three songs are strong pop songs with an edge but then the album slowly slides off from there before finishing relatively strong with cat people. the album is not essential bowie but it does have a few worthy tracks. finally, one reviewer mentioned that china girl was iggy pop's song. that is NOT true. bowie wrote all the songs including china girl on the iggy pop album "the idiot" and although iggy pop does an admirable job, bowie's version is by far the best.

Where the slippery slope began
For those of us who thought Scary Monsters to be the peak of Bowie's ramblings Let's Dance dashed our hopes. Clearly the attractions of making money dwarfed the artistic uniqueness to be found throughout the 70s. Start here for a journey into self-awareness and cliché that ends around Black Tie White Noise. A lightweight, unchallenging voyage of predictable blandness. Then again he could have been taking the piss which I hope he was ! Sounds nice on SACD but doesn't make up for the shallow depths waiting to be fulling exploited.
