(1 Customer Review)
HIP-HOP HITS is a budget compilation on Flashback records that collects 10 tracks by the 1990s crossover rap stars and kings of the summer jam Naughty By Nature. Though the group's second biggest hit "Hip Hop Hooray" is conspicuously absent, "O.P.P.," NBN's signature anthem, is front and center. The track overflows with the group's most appealing qualities: familiar, accessible loops ("O.P.P." borrows a Jackson 5 sample), anthemic, singalong choruses, and Treach and Vinnie's nimble, dancehall-informed flows. These qualities also come through loud and clear on "Everyday All Day," "Clap Yo Hands," and the unfairly forgotten hit "Feel Me Flow".
Naughty by Nature: Treach (rap vocals); Vinnie.

Hip-Hop Hits music CDs
$12.95 The three-volume Group Sounds set continues Collectables' diligent re-shuffling and re-packaging of doo wop and R&B singles from the late '50s and early '60s. As with other Collectables sets like For Lovers Only, Jukebox Giants, and Back Seat Memories, the Group Sounds discs offer a decent combination of national hits and regional hits. Although they are enjoyable, they are hardly definitive; and they don't exactly cater to collectors or newcomers, instead falling into some middle ground between those two poles. Another problem is that each of these discs are skimpy, containing only 12 songs. The third volume includes the Flamingos' "I Only Have Eyes for You," the Channels' "That's My Desire," the Cadillacs' "Gloria," Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers' "I Promise to Remember," the Valentines' "The Woo Woo Train," and the Elegants' "Little Star." It must be noted that there are identical sets of the Group Sounds series that are dedicated to New York's WCBS and Philadelphia's WOGL; two oldies stations that have undoubtedly spun many of these songs several times over. ~ Andy Kellman

| | Patti LaBelle Winner In You CD (1986)
Hip-Hop Hits songs
$5.19 Patti LaBelle enjoyed the biggest hit of her solo career when she switched labels from Philadelphia International to MCA. None of her albums had consistently clicked since she'd gone solo in 1977, but LaBelle's 1986 MCA debut topped the pop album charts, anchored by the huge hit "On My Own." The ...

Hip-Hop Hits album
$7.59 "Sweet Lady" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Funk guitar, '70s soul string arrangements, hip-hop-inflected beats and sophisticated electronica-derived mixing techniques all play a part in the musical pastiche that is Tyrese's self-titled debut. While the album falls squarely in the contemporary R&B mold, and is bound to appeal to fans of the genre, ...

| | Game Untold Story (Clean) CD (2004) Edited
Hip-Hop Hits music CDs
$9.25 Despite this conflict, UNTOLD STORY certainly conveys the Game's full hip-hop prowess, which stirred up such excitement in the West Coast rap scene. The Game's confidence is overwhelming, as he declares himself the best rapper since 2Pac's demise and drops almost every name in hip-hop from Nas to NWA. Fortunately, his rhymes back up his swagger; his style is not complex or ornate, but, like 2Pac, he gets his point across concisely and unquestionably. UNTOLD STORY provides a peek inside the mind of an up-and-coming rapper and stands on its own as a well-rounded record.
Before he signed with Aftermath, shipped platinum, and fell out with the same label in the midst of a major public feud with 50 Cent, Compton MC The Game was taken under the wing of rapper/producer JT Tha Bigga Figga. During the pair's time together, the latter collected rolls of tapes of The Game's early work and compiled it here, giving fans extraordinary insight into the evolution of the lyrically potent rap star. UNTOLD STORY VOLUME II is saved from being a knock-off by the fact that JT is a remarkable producer, and that The Game's capacity for sharp rhymes is seemingly endless.
The Game can turn a phrase with the best of them (i.e. "I move more birds than migration"), but his strongest suit is his informed connection to the history of hip-hop and R&B. On "I'm A Mobsta," he channels Rakim's measured confidence while reminiscing about listening to Bobby Womack and pointing to the corner ...
