Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Academy Awards; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re Based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author E. Annie Proulx, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is the tragic and moving story of two cowboys who unexpectedly fall in love while working together one summer in 1963. When the film begins, rodeo cowboy Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) and ranch-hand Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) are strangers meeting for the first time. As the more outgoing one, it is Jack who must initiate a friendship with Ennis, a man so tight-lipped and self-consciously macho he refuses all facial expression. From this strained beginning, Jack and Ennis gradually begin to bond on cold, lonely nights over a fire in the mountains of Signal, Wyoming. One particularly chilly evening, Jack invites Ennis into his tent, where a sudden awkward embrace sends their relationship in a new direction. Though each man stubbornly defends his heterosexuality, the spark between them cannot help but grow, with that initial summer on Brokeback Mountain becoming their reference point for happiness during the rest of their lives.
Spanning 20 years, the film moves at an impressively slow pace that really captures the detailed and unhurried style of Proulx's story. Seeing each other a few times a year at best, Ennis and Jack spend the rest of their time halfheartedly living up to society's expectations by marrying and having kids. When the lovers do meet, there is a sense of love so palpable and frustrating it often manifests itself in physical violence. Gyllenhaal shines as the film's hopeful light, and Ledger gives a powerful performance as the emotionally blocked Ennis. Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee captures the natural beauty of Wyoming and Texas with camerawork that, while beautiful, never feels imposing. Gustavo Santaolalla's simple yet haunting score helps to complete a beautiful portrait of wasted chances and regret. Theatrical Release: December 9, 2005 Brokeback Mountain Reviews: 4 stars out of 5 -- "[A] beautiful movie....The wide-open spaces of Wyoming, with its jagged, snow-dipped peaks and too-puffy-to-be-true cloud formations, linger long after the credits have faded. There's also a fragile, internalised beauty..."
-- Jayne Nelson, Total Film "Stellar performances, a haunting Oscar-winning soundtrack, and beautiful cinematography make for an unforgettable story."
-- Widescreen Review Staff, Widescreen Review "[I]t's a nuanced and complex study of desire, loneliness and the ambiguities swirling beneath the accepted codes of rural life. And, as such, one of the finest movies of the year."
-- Joanna Douglas, Uncut "The lonesome chill that seeps through Ang Lee's epic western, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is as bone deep as the movie's heartbreaking story..."
-- Stephen Holden, New York Times "It's a heart-wrenching portrayal of unfulfilled Wyoming love....The movie soars for the duration..."-- Mike Clark, USA Today "[T]he screenplay is a model of sensitive adaptation....The screenwriters' most significant contribution is their investment in well-defined, plausible female characters."
-- Ryan Gilbey, Sight and Sound Ranked #11 in Uncut's Best Films Of 2005 -- "A beautiful, elegant, elegiac movie, directed with great sensitivity and enhanced by outstanding performances."
-- Uncut Staff, Uncut Included in Entertainment Weekly's Top Ten Films Of The Year -- "[A] quietly revolutionary weeper..."

-- Harlan Jacobson, Film Comment 4 stars out of 4 -- "[O]ne of the truly convincing movies about romantic love to come along in years..."
-- Glenn Kenny, Premiere "BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is that rare thing, a big Hollywood weeper with a beautiful ache at its center. It's a modern-age Western that turns into a quietly revolutionary love story." -- Grade: A

Brokeback Mountain Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Outstanding DVD Brokeback Mountain is brilliantly done, and I would recommend it to all.... male/female, gay/straight... it doesn't matter... just simply a fantastic flick Submitted by william (Upstate NY) Was This Review Helpful? a heartbreaking love story I went to see this movie on the basis of all the hype that was created by its release but I never expected to be so moved as I was when I first saw it. The pain and heartbreak of Ennis and Jack's affair could be felt through the whole movie and made my heart go out to them. Ang Lee did a fantastic job of bringing this short story to life and Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger had incredible performances of their own. This is one movie that I was glad to have seen in the theatre and one that I'm glad to now own! Submitted by muttbreath (Poky, ID) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Reliving Brokeback Mountain I know that I am just one of the thousands that have experienced the beauty of Annie Proulx's short story brought to life through the magic of cinema. Under the skillful and talented direction of Ang Lee, Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal have given to film history a great love story that is sure to rank with the best that cinema history has to offer. I also know that I am just one of thousands who can relate to this story with first hand knowledge. Even though I had read all the press releases about the film, I really did not have any idea about the story line. The first time I saw the movie, I was moved beyond words with the greatness of the film. It didn't take long to have memories of my own coming flooding back to me. We weren't cowboys and it wasn't 1963; but it was 1973 and Ennis Del Mar was my friend and I was Jack Twist! I saw the movie four times in the theater and now that it has been released on DVD, I can watch it as often as I wish. I will always be grateful to Annie Proulx, Ang Lee, Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal for immortalizing on film, at least in my mind, the story of my past which will help me tremendously in facing the future alone. Deserves the all the Best at the Oscars Should have all won the 8 nominations at the Academy Awards. In my 30 years of watching movies, this is the best movie I have seen so far. I can't get if off my mind. It haunts me and everytime I think about it, I can't help but well up. A beautiful movie and not just a 'gay cowboy movie'. It left a mark in my heart. Brokeback Mountain review
$23.45 Co-helmed by WALL-E director Andrew Stanton, FINDING NEMO follows Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks), an overprotective clown fish father, as he desperately searches the farthest reaches of the sea for his missing son Nemo. Marlin's journey leads him beyond the Great Barrier Reef into deeper and darker waters, where he meets Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a forgetful yet optimistic blue tang, and a number of not-so-friendly--and often very hungry--aquatic creatures. Meanwhile, little Nemo finds himself in a dentist's fish tank in Syndey, Australia, along with other underwater captives, including Gill (Willem Dafoe), the group's scarred Moorish idol leader. As Nemo works with his new friends on a plan to escape their tank, Marlin and Dory swim closer, but they'll need more than just fins to get into the dentist's office.
This fifth computer-animated outing by Pixar continues the company's remarkable winning streak that began with TOY STORY. Like other Pixar films, FINDING NEMO features a story with heart--this time, a father-and-son tale--and thoroughly charming leads--in this case, Marlin, Nemo, and Dory. And, of course, there's an army of fascinating supporting characters, including Bruce (Barry Humphries), a great white shark on a no-fish diet; Crush (director/screenwriter Stanton), a surfer-dude sea turtle; Peach (Allison Janney), a stuck-to-the-aquarium starfish; and Nigel (Geoffrey Rush), a bold pelican. However, what truly distinguishes NEMO from even its CGI cousins is its stunning depiction of aquatic life, from the colorful creatures on a coral reef to a blue whale on the vast expanse of the open ocean. By combining the aesthetic of a National Geographic marine life documentary with clever jokes and Hitchcock references, NEMO succeeds in its bid to up the ante for animated films yet again. And be sure to watch the credits or you just might miss something!

$10.29 With the release of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in 1970, a new form of comedy was born, one that would help to forever change the face of cinema. Altman's audacious film reflected the American counterculture's growing distrust of religion and government in the late 1960s and early 1970s, resulting in one of the biggest box office smashes of its time. Introducing the techniques he would employ throughout his storied career--overlapping dialogue, a constantly moving camera with a heavy amount of zooming, and a bold combination of frank subject matter with cynical humor--Altman immediately vaulted himself to Hollywood's upper ranks. Based on the novel by Richard Hooker, M*A*S*H follows a group of Mobile Army Surgical Hospital officers as they perform surgery and pass the time just miles from the front lines of the Korean conflict. Led by sardonic captains "Hawkeye" Pierce (Donald Sutherland) and "Trapper" John McIntyre (Elliott Gould), the film has the feel of an absurd three-ring circus. Other characters include the uptight nurse "Hot Lips" O'Houlihan (Sally Kellerman), the confused Major Frank Burns (Robert Duvall), the troubled Captain "Painless" Waldowski (John Shuck), and the simpleminded Captain "Duke" Forrest (Tom Skerritt). Altman's decision to present his film as a series of loosely connected vignettes rather than a traditionally unfolding narrative perfectly captures the freewheeling spirit so unique to early-'70s cinema.

Brokeback Mountain movie DVD
$11.79 Director Andrew Adamson gives a new dimension to C.S. Lewis's enchanting story with this long-awaited Disney adaptation. As the story begins, Mrs. Pevensie--in order to keep her children safe during World War II--sends Lucy (Georgie Henley), Edmond (Skandar Keynes), Susan (Anna Popplewell), and Peter (William Moseley) off to stay at a professor's country estate. Away from London and under the care of a strict housekeeper, they are instructed to stick to themselves and stay out of trouble. But when an innocent game of hide-and-seek leads young Lucy to a spare room containing a large wardrobe, she discovers something that will change their lives forever.
Inside the wardrobe there is a world frosted with ice and filled with magical beings. Known as Narnia, the land is stuck in eternal winter at the hands of the cruel White Witch, played with great force by the pale, strong-featured Tilda Swinton. When she steps back into reality, Lucy struggles to convince her skeptical siblings of the things she's seen. After much disbelief, the others finally enter the world as well, learning that the creatures of Narnia have long been waiting for humans like themselves to appear and break the witch's spell. But in order to be of any help to the lovable talking beavers, fawns, foxes, and centaurs that they meet, the four will have to face betrayal by one of their own as Edmond cracks under the witch's tempting offer of unlimited Turkish Delights. Under the leadership of the great lion Aslan (voice of Liam Neeson), can Lucy, Edmond, Susan, and the oldest, Peter, prove themselves heroes in the ultimate battle of good vs. evil? High-budget special effects, impressive performances by the film's young newcomers, and beautiful set design move this film far beyond previous television adaptations.
This DVD includes the film with bonus bloopers, fun facts, kids & director commentary, and filmmakers' commentary.

$8.94 Cameron Crowe's career trajectory reads like a true Hollywood story--he started out as a 15-year-old writing for Rolling Stone magazine and eventually ended up writing, directing, and acting in movies. His poignant writing style reflects the nostalgia and humor of an era, with bits of pop culture and musical history and trivia woven in. This has proven to be a highly successful formula, as in the 1989 emo love story SAY ANYTHING, and the '90s grunge rocker hit SINGLES.
Crowe's ALMOST FAMOUS is a semiautobiographical account that tells the story of a teen journalist, William Miller (Patrick Fugit), who goes on the road with an up-and-coming rock band called Stillwater. Though Miller's mentor, legendary rock critic Lester Bangs (portrayed with humor and heart by Philip Seymour Hoffman), cautions him not to befriend the musicians, Miller takes it a step further and befriends both the band and the Band-Aids--the girls who hang around with the band because they love the music. Miller is in for a wild ride around the country, to thrilling concerts and debauched backyard parties, living the life many 15-year olds dream about. He discovers that beneath the glittery façade of rock stardom are sometimes bittersweet life lessons and mild doses of heartbreak. More impacting are the friendships he finds with his glamorous travel companions. Newcomer Fugit is the perfect William Miller: baby-faced, slightly gawky, and an awestruck observer. Kate Hudson sparkles as Penny Lane, the leader of the Band-Aids, and Frances McDormand delivers a stellar performance as Elaine, Miller's protective and mildly paranoid mother. In the tradition of SAY ANYTHING and JERRY MAGUIRE, Crowe's coming-of-age tale is intelligent, well-written, and memorable.
