Limited Edition comes packaged in a Digi-book. The new Doro album Warrior Soul carries on the spirit of the old Warlock times and adapts in to the current times. Doro would not be Doro if she did not put all of her heart and energy into Warrior Soul. Once again she had to go a long way. It has leaded her from the already familiar Yellohouse Studio in Wupppertal (Germany), the Atom-H-Studios and the cooperation with Chris Lietz and Torsten Sickert to Switzerland where she worked together with Deezl Imhof (Foolpark Studios) and film director Luke Gasser. A great number of future hits have been developed on her journey for example 'Stranger's Yesterday', 'Above The Ashes' or 'You're My Family' which is dedicated to the many true Doro fans. Mixed by Deezl and the New Yorker Metal Mike Goldberg who have put the finishing touches on it, Warrior Soul is not only the name of the album but it was also done with all soul of a true warrior. Warrior Soul (Enhanced)
$11.25 Personnel: Common (rap vocals); The Last Poets (spoken vocals); James Poyser (various instruments); Derrick Hodge (double bass); Num Amun-Tehu (percussion); A-Trak, DJ Dummy (turntables); John Legend, John Mayer , Kanye West, Lonnie Lynn, Bilal, Luna E (background vocals). Electric Circus cost and won Common some fans. It was very exploratory, especially so for a rap album released in 2002, containing developments -- some of which soared, some of which sank -- that few longtime followers could have foreseen. Listeners either felt Common was picking up fresh, new inspirations, or that he was just being distracted by a whole lot of ill-fitting nonsense. With Be, it seems the MC has realized that not every album that's sprawling and eclectic is as good as Electric Ladyland or Songs in the Key of Life. More notably, he might've been struck with the fact that a high percentage of excellent albums are around 40 minutes in length and are built on a unified sound. Be is highly concentrated, containing 11 songs and involving two producers and a small number of guests. It's a 180 degree turn from Electric Circus, and in a bizarre way it's both a progression and a back-to-basics move. Kanye West and Dilla are key to the album's steadiness, rooting the sound in '70s soul and soul-jazz. That's no shakeup, but the two producers deserve some form of award for stringing together a consistent sequence of productions that is never monotonous, dull, or all that flashy. Even lead single "The Corner," heard well before Be's release, falls into the fabric of the album on first listen, as if that were where it belonged all along. Lyrically, ...
| | Sandalinas Living On The Edge CD (2005)
Warrior Soul (Enhanced)
$9.59 Comments: Living On The Edge, the full-length debut from Sandalinas, is a finely tuned album that hearkens to the glory sounds of progressive metal and hard rock of the 1980s. For those who have tired from the endless barrage of "new bands" and their guitarists who barely have enough aptitude to pick up an instrument, this disc is a warm welcome. Many styles from the metal genre are revisited with great enthusiasm and ability, all fused together into a fine alloy. Sandalinas is comprised, on the album at least, of Barcelona-born Jordi Sandalinas (guitar), Apollo Papathanasio (vocals), Xavier Monfort (bass), Xavier Perez (drums), Victor Casado (guitar), and Marcus Palsson (keyboards). The most recognizable name on the CD to most, perhaps, belongs to the producer: Andy La Rocque, of King Diamond fame. It was a fateful meeting in a recording studio back in 2000 between La Rocque and Sandalinas, where Jordi played some of his demos for Andy, that the genesis of the project was born. From there Sandalinas brought Monfort, a jazz studio gun, from Spain, and La Rocque introduced Papathanasio. Rhythmically, Living On The Edge tips its hat to many styles of hard rock and metal. "All Along The Everglades" and "The Conqueror" encompass the nobility and majesty of their New Wave Of British Heavy Metal pioneers Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, while tracks like "The Day The Earth Died" and "Heaven In You" are reminiscent of the Dio-era Rainbow in its melodic and quietest moments. A nod must be given to singer Papathanasio. His mid-range voice sounds similar to Gary Barden (and in some cases, like John Sykes in the supercharged road trip song, "Back In Time"), and is as important in the album's seamless sound and vibe. To name your group after yourself is a daring decision. It places a lot of pressure to live up to the confidence created by stamping your surname on the cover. Though the name Sandalinas doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, Jordi's confidence in his playing covers this roll of the dice with much interest. Whether he's churning and burning on "The Ritual Of Truth" or strumming acoustic on the upbeat "Die Hard," Sandalinas demostrates not only what missing in today's rock, but the kind of music that sophisticated rivetheads miss.Track Listing of songs: 1. Living On The Edge 2. All Along the Everglades ...
