BIO:Matt was born in Corpus Christi, TX on April 29, 1987. He was raised in Portland, TX, which is twenty miles north of Corpus Christi, and spent his adolescent years attending the public school systems in which he graduated from in May of 2005. The very next day, Matt went to work for the local cotton and grain elevator to raise money for college. After harvest season came to an end in August, he moved to Kingsville, TX to attend Texas A&M University and work on getting his college degree in music performance. Music has always been a huge part of Matt's life, as well as what he has centered his life around. "He has always been able to sing", recalls Matt's Mom; Vicki. "Even when he was just a toddler, he was using his dad’s extra-large t-shirt as a choir robe and standing on the fireplace pretending to be in the church choir, just singing his heart out." Matt began playing the piano when he was in second grade and quickly became very proficient at the instrument. Constantly wanting to do more with his music, he began playing the clarinet and flute in junior high. By the time he entered high school, Matt was considered one of the top high school clarinet players in the South Texas area, and quickly began playing in professional bands and orchestras to gain experience and earn a little money. "It was an invaluable experience getting to perform; whether I got paid or not," laughs Matt. Though it had been overshadowed by his instrumental journey, Matt's passion for singing was still ever present, and one day, his church choir director asked him if he would be willing to play keyboard in the Saturday night praise band, and Matt quickly jumped at the opportunity. "I remember at a rehearsal one evening, the band leader asked me if I could sing," says Matt, "and I quietly replied yes. I sang a few bars of a song for her, and she quickly told someone to get me a mic, so I could sing some harmonies. After a few nights of doing harmonies, she gave me my first lead song to sing. I was terrified at first, but once I got started, the butterflies went away and it was the most exhilarating feeling in the world; I loved every minute of it!!" As his high school years came to an end, Matt had to leave the church praise band to attend college full time. He was devastated when he wasn’t able to sing, and after a year as a clarinet performance major at college, he realized that his true musical passion was indeed singing and that it was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Matt then decided to take a year off from college and concentrate on achieving his musical goal of becoming a singer. "I don’t feel I wasted my year at college because I learned so much about the different aspects of music; such as theory, aural training, orchestration, composing, music history, and performing," states Matt, "plus, I will be able to apply these elements to ...
