(3 Customer Reviews)
Charting the first 12 years in the career of the beloved French electronica duo, MUSIQUE VOL. 1 features many of Daft Punk's finest moments. While the collection consists largely of tracks from the act's three studio albums--most notably the ridiculously infectious dance-floor anthems "Da Funk" and "Around the World," the house hit "One More Time," and the giddy "Technologic"--the set also features three club-minded remixes of other artists' songs and the excellent title track, which essentially established the groundwork for Daft Punk's unmistakable robotic club sound.Q (p.125) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "This collection does contain the best moments from debut album HOMEWORK..." Uncut (p.102) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[A] powerful reminder of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo's astute pop brilliance." Mojo (Publisher) (p.125) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Career-spanning comp of the Gallic dance duo's finest moments..." it is very fun to listen to, and a little trippy at times, but you have to like and understand techno and dance music to enjoy. Submitted by jayandsilentbobkickass (edmonton,AB,canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 2 found this helpful.
best, best of cd ever best cd EVER Submitted by futuramalover (victoria australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Unbearable Where to begin? This "music" is repetitive, boring, formulaic, unoriginal, annoying and irritating. It makes me want to instantly leave any room that happens to play this schlock. Where is the creativity in repeating "One more time" or "Around the world" 800 times in the same "song"? This "music" would be perfectly suited for use in psychological warfare situations as it makes me want to pull out my hair and teeth whenever it plays on the AV system at the gym. I've petitioned the gym staff for removal of this effluvia from their play rotation but they are powerless as they only play what's beamed to them from corporate. Thank Christ my Ipod's volume can overcome the sonic ejaculation of these cursed Frenchmen. Submitted by Robert (Arlington, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 4 found this helpful.

Perhaps the definitive live document of the original Fleetwood Mac, LIVE AT THE BOSTON TEA PARTY was recorded at a crucial point in the band's history. By 1970, Fleetwood Mac (the blues-based, Peter Green-led version, not the later pop aggregation) had achieved fame both in their native U.K. and in the U.S., and their pioneering blues-rock was beginning to be influenced by American groups like the Grateful Dead (as evidenced by the extended jams on BOSTON TEA PARTY). ...

| | Dave Cousins Two Weeks Last Summer CD (1972)
Musique, Vol. 1: 1993-2005 CD music
$26.39 Making its CD debut, TWO WEEKS LAST SUMMER features Milen Natchev, the founding member of the Strawbs, along with Miller Anderson, Roger Glover, Jon Hiseman, and Rick Wakeman.
Dave Cousins' 1972 solo album was very much like a Strawbs record of the period, albeit one in which his songwriting and vocals dominated even more than they did on other Strawbs releases from the era. The Strawbs connection is enhanced by the presence of soon-to-be Strawb Dave Lambert on guitar and backing vocals, and just-ex-Strawb Rick Wakeman on keyboards. A couple of other moonlighters from star bands (bassist Roger Glover of Deep Purple and drummer Jon Hiseman of Colosseum) are onboard too, as are, on a couple tracks, the wind septet of Robert Kirby, most known for his contributions to Nick Drake recordings. Like the Strawbs albums from the time, it shows a move toward a folk-rock/harder rock blend as compared to Cousins' folkier beginnings, though a few cuts mostly or wholly feature only Cousins accompanying himself on piano. Too, some of these songs -- such as "Two Weeks Last Summer," "October to May," and "We'll Meet Again Sometime" -- had actually been recorded with the Strawbs prior to inclusion on this release, even if the Strawbs versions didn't find their way into wide release until the CD era. It's not ...

| | Supersonic Riverside Blues Data4.5.1 CD (2008)
Musique, Vol. 1: 1993-2005 album
$20.25 Supersonic Riverside Blues aka Franck Vigroux is a French avant-garde musician operating on the borders of rock, jazz, electronic and contemporary art music. Multi instrumentalist and composer Franck Vigroux is part of the coterie of French experimentalists that have been raiding the borders of all genres of music since the 2000\'s. He leads many projects, applying musical composition and interaction with new technologies and improvisation, as well as use of , turntables, vintage synth in improvising performance and studio work. \"A blast of analogue noise heralds Data 4.5.1 but within 20 seconds it's clear the listener isn't going to be subjected to yet another round of harsh circuit abuse. French sound artist Franck Vigroux (aka Supersonic Riverside Blues) identifies his practice as a mix of electro-acoustic and electronica, though to these ears his music has a more visceral quality. Vigroux's sound sources are hard to identify, though his signature sound appears to be a vintage synth doused in modern digital effects. Submerged voice samples and turntable scratches rise up from the reverbed depths, but this primarily remains a watery realm of synthesized texture, appropriately one more river-like than oceanic, as the music is carried forward by subliminal 4/4 rhythms. Vigroux commendably avoids over-reliance on traditional drum sounds, instead creating ...
