Personnel: Amel Larrieux (vocals, keyboards); Chris Parks (guitar); Laru Larrieux (acoustic guitar, keyboards, percussion, drum programming); Daniel Walker (gadulka); Carlos Henderson (upright bass). Recording information: Blisslife Studios; Little World Studios. Unlike the average brassy, belting R&B diva, neo-soul singer Amel Larrieux has a breathy coo of a voice that bears comparison to both the bossa nova songbird Astrud Gilberto and, especially on the giddy opening track "Trouble," Bjork. Her third album, MORNING, puts her alluring vocals in a variety of equally low-key settings like the minimalist Alicia Keys-style come-on "Earn My Affections" and the trippy downtempo psychedelia of "Magic." Bring on the Greenwich Village eclecticism kissed by California sunshine. Since arriving on the scene as a solo artist in the late '90s --after being half of the celebrated duo Groove Theory with Mantronix rapper Bryce Wilson -- Amel Larrieux has taken the restless path of following her own muse as both a singer and a songwriter. Morning is her third solo offering, and her second for her Blisslife label. Taking the nu-soul aesthetic to new heights, she crafts wonderfully strange and beautiful songs that are big on subtle yet permeating rhythm tracks. Her layered vocals -- replete with her amazing range -- are backed by a glorious combination of electric and acoustic instruments courtesy of her keyboards and her multi-instrumentalist husband, Laru. Standout tracks include the shimmering "Trouble" that opens the set, the slippery light funk of "Unanswered Questions," the skeletal groove-conscious "Earn My Affections," the folk-soul of the title cut, the angular futurism of "Magic," and the nocturnally insistent psychedelic soul closer that is "Mountain of When." That's not to say that the other cuts are losers. There isn't a weak moment here, which raises the question of how a marginal talent like Norah Jones can cut the big time with so little effort when Larrieux -- who is as multi-talented as Alicia Keys and a better singer, and who makes fine records on a fraction of the budget -- remains hanging in the shadows. Morning is sophisticated, soulful, sexy, and forward-looking, and should be checked out by anyone interested in truly great pop music. ~ Thom Jurek Morning Music | List Price | $18.98 (You save $3.69) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, International CDs, Rap, Soul/R&B, Urban Soundtrack, Funk, R&B, Enhanced CD | | Label | Bliss Life | | Orig Year | 2006 | | All Time Sales Rank | 39417 | | CD Universe Part number | 7048536 | | Catalog number | 2 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Apr 25, 2006 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Producer | Laru Larrieux; Laru Larrieux | | Engineer | Laru Larrieux | | Personnel | Amel Larrieux - vocals, keyboards Chris Parks - guitar Laru Larrieux - acoustic guitar, keyboards, percussion, drum programming Carlos Henderson - upright bass Daniel Walker - gadulka Daniel Walker - gadulka

Amel Larrieux Morning Songs Morning Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Music Having a Mind Free From Doubt It’s nice to hear positive, strong songs with good production not attempting to sound like all the other songs on the radio. A must have CD! Submitted by Zen823 (Moreno Valley, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Lovin' it Words cannot express the way this album has moved my soul. I have always appreciated Amel's smooth disposition which carries over so well into her music. I am so delighted that not only am I attracted to her beats but my teen daughter also adores her beautiful lyrics as well. This album is a must have for Neo-soul/R&B lovers and the like. Truely Bliss All That I have heard from her previously was her Groove Theory track to “Love Jones”. Very impressed then, just never got around to finding all of her work. It wasn't until I saw her top 10 video selections & preview of “Morning” on VH1 did I fall in Love!
The emotional depth & lyrical content is very spiritual and refreshing. If Meshell Ndegeocello is down to Earth, Ameil is refreshing like the Wind, both very artistic and wonderful capturers of moods. Pure stripped down tunes like "morning” captures the true essence of a sunrise on a crispy day as she moans you into the mood and “trouble" a playful childlike mood. “No one else” delivers you right into the arms of your lover with tender lyrics of appreciation. "Weary" transfers you into the center of her concerns as loved one that desires to let her guard down and just are allowed to be vulnerable. Gills & tails lets you into her heart as she expresses her need to be let go & be free. Mountain of When is a sung in a riddle like style that leaves you hypnotized and waiting to hear each lyric.
This is a serious piece of work that paints a very vivid picture on the canvas of ones soul it's very therapeutic. Submitted by goldspirit5 (Riverside,NJ,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

outstanding heard the album on VH1 prior to it's release. Couldn't wait to purchase it. Released 4/25; in stores for actual purchase 4/26 that's how serious I was about obtaining it. The lyrics address various modern day issues as well as the emotions that result. The beats are to die for. Pure liquid.......... | | Amel Larrieux Bravebird CD (2004)
Morning
$12.95 2004 sophomore album for the former vocalist of Groove Theory. Rolling Stones says Bravebird is '..one of the most off-the-hook new soul albums in years.' 12 tracks. Bliss Life Records.
Producers: Laru Larrieux, Threadhead, Basho Ink, Amel Larrieux. Audio Mixers: Eric "Ebo" Butler; Andy Schlesinger; Laru Larrieux. Similar to the likeminded Alana Davis, the soulful and serene Amel Larrieux only made it a couple years into the 2000s before having major-label support pulled out from under her. Released on her own Blisslife label, Bravebird is an excellent album that suggests her unceremonious dropping from Epic had nothing to do with the quality of her music and everything to do with the label's unwillingness to find a marketing niche for this ...
| | R Kelly TP.3: Reloaded CD (2005) Bonus DVD; Limited Edition
Morning
$8.99 Personnel: R. Kelly (vocals, rap vocals); Do or Die, Elephant Man, Nivea, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Twista, Wisin, Yandel, Baby (rap vocals). TP.3 Reloaded is thematically opposite to Happy People/U Saved Me. The first hour of the album is mostly about getting rowdy and getting it on, full of some of the clumsiest and lewdest lyrics R. Kelly has written. Funniest of all is the relatively tame "Kickin' It With Your Girlfriend," where Kelly apologizes to his woman for cheating on her, says he didn't mean to cause pain, proceeds to tell her about all about the affair, and in a roundabout way suggests that it's her fault for allowing him to cross paths with her girlfriend. With ...
