Recorded in London during 1995, HOLY DIVER LIVE finds revered metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio recreating his classic '83 solo debut in its entirety onstage. Opening with the barnstorming "Stand Up and Shout," Dio leads his proficient band through each track of the album, garnering a huge crowd response with the hard-rock anthem "Rainbow in the Dark." The second disc of this set finds the leather-clad one delivering another strong batch of tunes that draws largely on his stints with both Rainbow ("Gates of Babylon," "Man on the Silver Mountain") and Black Sabbath ("Sign of the Southern Cross," "Heaven & Hell"), making this an essential concert release for Dio diehards.

I really like the mix of songs and the performance of the band. However, as much as I love Ronnie's vocals, they are lacking on this effort. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because, maybe he was sick or his voice was tired, but the rendition of the song Holy Diver is better on other live efforts. If you are a fan, buy this album. Not so good... ...infact almost horrible. Like most newer live CDs, it sounds like they fix up the recording and it sounds almost like studio work, except in this case they got it wrong because it's pretty flat sounding. Ronnie's "oh's" and "ah's" just sound off and actually detract from the songs when they use to enhance it. That said, there is a big but! But the tarot woman and gates of babylon are awesome, that was worth the price alone, though this CD is still a disappointment. Not to mention, why won't Dio play those other rainbow songs live? I'd give my left arm for stargazer. Anywayz, Doug's guitar playing is great and he sounds dead on for ritchie or Campbell, really did his home work. If you're looking for live Dio, last in line or Live evil are better. If you need just to have one of those rare songs, than it's worth it. -O Submitted by ollie2112 (Sarnia, ON) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Dio is the best!!! 60+ years old and the voice is still there!!!Unbelievable!!!The only complain about this live cd is that there are no songs from the post 1984 period.Only songs up to the Last in Line record. If you don't have the cd ,buy it right away. This is classic DIO!!! Heck yeah! Dio has still "got it," even after all these years. He has remained true to himself, unlike much of his contemporaries and his voice only seems to get better with age."creamygoodness" can kiss myass, incidentally. I thought HOLY DIVER LIVE was a really neat idea. The original HOLY DIVER still holds up as a classic, after twenty-four years and it is just fantastic to hear live interpretations of those songs. "Rainbow In The Dark" has always been a personal fave, as weel as the song, "Holy Diver." I'm a big-time 'Sabbath fan as well, so I particularly enjoyed "Sign Of The Southern Cross." In a notshell, this album is, front to back, top to bottom, a great album. Submitted by Clyde (Hertfordshire, U.K.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Holy Diver Live
$9.99 There's something about a post-millennium album cover that features a giant blue-horned minion of Satan in pre-pounce with an illuminated crystal ball in its leathery hand that simply warms the soul, and the fact that it adorns a record called Master of the Moon can mean only one thing: Dio. Unlike many in the aging metal community, Ronnie James Dio still possesses the same powerful voice that fueled the genre through its late-'70s and '80s heydays, and the reigning dark prince of Elfdom and two-time Black Sabbath frontman is still capable of writing a killer song or two. MOTM resembles earlier works like Last in Line and Sacred Heart in its ability to buffer those one or two great tracks with seven or eight forgettable ones. Luckily, it's the first one out of the gate, "One More for the Road," that packs the biggest wallop. Similar in attack to classics like "We Rock" and "Stand Up and Shout," it sets a breakneck pace for a record that gives up just minutes after the firing of the start gun. What follows is a series of midtempo rockers outfitted with RJD's generic fantasy lyrics about dreams, evil, and being "stronger than the wind," which flirt with creative arrangements and forward-thinking key changes, only to concede to the dark lord of banality. There are moments that inspire, like the snaky Brian May-like riff that weaves through the ...

By 1993, Aerosmith's comeback was in full swing, and GET A GRIP proves that, after soldiering on through drug problems and interpersonal tensions, the band wasn't about to let its new lease on life get away. Most of the material on GET A GRIP is a far cry from the band's celebrated '70s work, both structurally and in terms of production. But while the sound is a bit more panoramic, incorporating more keyboards and a grander, more pop-oriented approach, Steven Tyler and the boys have lost none of their fire here.
Tyler's voice may have changed a bit over the years, but what he's lost in sheer lung power he's gained ...

$13.15 Someone who hasn't spent time in southern California might not fully appreciate the title Behind the Orange Curtain. Back in the '70s and '80s -- when there was still a Soviet Union and the communist governments of Eastern Europe were referred to as "behind the Iron Curtain" -- folks in Los Angeles County jokingly referred to Orange County (their neighbor to the south) as "the Orange Curtain." That term became dated when the Cold War ended and there was no longer an Iron Curtain separating Eastern and Western Europe, but it's still a funny term. Well, the L.A.-based Bulletboys ventured "behind the Orange Curtain" when they recorded this live hard rock/metal album at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana. The credits, unfortunately, don't tell listeners when Behind the Orange Curtain was recorded, but it was probably around 2002-2003 because lead singer ...
