Disappearer music CDs
$16.09 When SONIC BOOM was released, it had been over a decade since the last Kiss studio album, so expectations were understandably high. In addition, the intervening period had seen the band fire two of its founding members for the second time, only to replace them with sidemen wearing Ace Frehley and Peter Criss's iconic makeup. Luckily, the new additions, unlike some of Kiss's "un-masked years" members, have a good feel for classic Kiss. That fact, matched with Paul Stanley's assumption of production duties, ...

| | Rammstein Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da CDs (2009) Bonus Tracks; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Disappearer album
$17.79 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here ...

| | Spotlight On Maxine Brown/Greatest Hits CD (2000) (Import) United Kingdom
Disappearer music CDs
$17.35 Includes liner notes by Peter Gibbon, Rob Hughes, and Mick Patrick.
A confusing release that seems to have tried to both sweep up rarities for the completist and offer something approximating a greatest-hits package, the result being, of course, that everyone's a bit unsatisfied. Basically, the idea was to combine all the songs from her 1965 LP Spotlight (actually largely a collection of 1963-65 singles) and her 1967 LP Greatest Hits (which duplicated five tracks from Spotlight) onto one CD, adding eight rare bonus tracks. Those additional cuts are taken from non-LP mid-'60s recordings and a couple of previously unissued items. There are two problems with that concept. The first is that no less than 15 of the 28 tracks also appear on another Kent release, the fine anthology Oh No Not My Baby: The Best of Maxine Brown, which many of the people considering buying any Brown reissue are likely to have already. The second is that this CD actually does not include "All in My Mind" and "Funny," which -- if the cover art of Greatest Hits, complete with track listing, reproduced on the cover of this two-fer is to be believed -- were on the original 1967 Greatest Hits LP. That's an uncommon gaffe for ...

| | Condition Red CD (2000) (Import) Sweden
Disappearer album
$11.39 Essentially a work by Lars Eric Mattsson, this disc received a lot of attention for featuring the work of Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Planet X, Alice Cooper). Unfortunately Sherinian's presence is limited to two keyboard solos and does little to elevate the album beyond the mundane. It's not so much a factor of the musicianship and songwriting as it is the production. Indeed, the album really feels like it was recorded in someone's basement. The flat texture unfortunately reduces the music (good progressive rock/prog metal compositions) ...

Disappearer music CDs
$9.85 Beginning in the fall of 1996, and formerly known as Unsound, we took shape as a band in the New Jersey and New York hardcore/punk scene of the era. Having met and befriended in high school with a common bond, we all shared a driving focus to take part in the local community and to always challenge ourselves to write the most original music we could. In 1999 Warren took over as vocalist in our band. Warren pushes the limits on the definition of what a singer is; meshing styles of voice that make him the fifth instrument within the music. Warren fit perfectly; creatively we all strive to explore the art of song writing by experimenting and breaking boundaries. Bringing forth new ideas, perceptions and dimensions and always pushing forward is necessary. Nothing should repeat itself. There should never be a comfort zone too cozy. The subconscious is a mysterious place and harnessing its energy is how we write songs. Playing live is such a forum for the physical expression of music and soul. The body and the mind are to do what they will in the moment, and our live sets are a testament to the connection that the songs we've written have to our collective spirit as a band. We started the band with the desire to play shows, meet new people and have fun; nothing much has changed to this day. Playing live allows us to deal openly with personal problems in a way that we are comfortable with. Our sound has always been a healer, most often shared with small intimate groups of understanding individuals. In essence, when an open mind is fused with the right moment one can realize things they never saw before or connect with something so deeply embedded that it erupts a new warmth. Over the years we met so many great people, played with many of our favorite bands and always cherished the beauty of community and sharing our ideas. We have so much respect and admiration for all the people involved in underground punk rock, from the kids who book shows, rent the halls, garages, supply the basements, offer the floor to sleep on, do fanzines, do sound, sell merch, play in bands... those ...

Disappearer album
$10.19 After fronting Californian doom gods Saint Vitus throughout their most fertile career phase, in the second half of the 1980s, lead vocalist Scott "Wino" Weinrich decided to throw in his towel, dust off his long-in-disuse guitar playing talents, and resurrect his original retro-metal power trio, the Obsessed. Unfortunately, the band's first eponymous album from 1990 (there had been an EP -- the legendary Sodden Jackal -- way back ...
