(3 Customer Reviews)
IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT is where it all started for Pat Benatar. Her 1979 debut includes several tracks that automatically caught the ear of rock radio, and perfectly set up a recording career that by the mid-'80s would make her one of the top female rockers in the U.S.
While other female-fronted rocker outfits such as Heart incorporated elements of Led Zeppelin into their sound, Benatar and her band went the opposite route and incorporated melodic pop into their hard rock. Such highlights as "Heartbreaker" and a cover of John Mellencamp's "I Need a Lover" have become arena rock standards over the years.
Recorded at MCA Whitney Studios, Glendale, California in June and July 1979.
Personnel: Pat Benatar (vocals); Neil Geraldo (electric & slide guitars, keyboards, background vocals); Scott St. Clair Sheets (guitar); Roger Capps (bass, background vocals); Glen Alexander Hamilton (drums).

Your Love is like a todal wave... This is by far one of Pat's best albums! HEARTBREAKER, NO YOU DON'T, WE LIVE FOR LOVE & MY CLONE SLEEPS ALONE rock! She did much more than John Cougar Mellencamp ever did with I NEED A LOVER! Get it today! Submitted by Eric (Tampa, FL USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Pat's debut album This was the album that started it all for Pat. It's near-perfect, and contains the mega-hit "Heartbreaker", as well as "We Live For Love" and "I Need A Lover". Every song on here is classic, with the exception of a couple duds ("Rated X" and "Don't Let It Show"), but it's still well-worth the purchase. This album is very strong and Pat's voice is in top form...and check out that cover! Submitted by Samm (Lafayette, IN USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.

In The Heat Of The Night
$6.85 For 1983's UH HUH, the follow-up to his breakthrough album, AMERICAN FOOL, John Cougar reclaimed his real last name--Mellencamp--while keeping "Cougar" as a middle name. The change is significant, since UH HUH still features the swaggering rock & roll of John Cougar, in the form of the raucous "Crumblin' Down" and the defiant "Authority Song," while pointing towards his more mature John Mellencamp days with "Pink Houses," a celebration of small-town America. The aforementioned tunes were all major hits for Mellencamp, and they make up the first three songs ...

In The Heat Of The Night
$9.85 Despite a drum machine-heavy production style, Urban Life, the second release by fusion supergroup V.I.P. Club, succeeds in no small way due to the organic '70s soul-oriented songwriting by Wolfgang Haffner. Haffner's songs combine the funky, disco-oriented pop melodies of groups such as Earth, Wind & Fire and the Crusaders with a contemporary, European production style not unlike the Brand New Heavies. Although these are primarily instrumental jams, background vocals are heard on a few tracks, drawing out the melodic lines and making for a very listenable session. The tracks also benefit greatly from the presence of trumpeter Till Bronner, whose fuzzy, warm, and lithe tone is reminiscent of Chet Baker and Eddie Henderson. Another standout addition is the trombone of Fred Wesley, featured on the Pleasure-ific title track. Other major guest players include Bob James, Chuck Loeb, and Roy Ayers. ~ Matt Collar

| | Mum Finally We Are No One CD (2002)
In The Heat Of The Night
$12.25 Múm's first album for Fat Cat -- by no coincidence, the label that also broke fellow Icelanders Sigur Rós -- has all the majestic synths, crackly drum machine percussion, sampled silence, and crystalline vocals you'd expect from the country that produced Björk and Sigur Rós, though with less focus on digital sound than the former and less reliance on drama than the latter. Múm is very interested in the music of sound, but Finally We Are No One never sounds like a difficult record; if it's not the instruments sounding naïve or folksy (in good ways), the lisping, childlike vocals are bound to prompt adjectives like adorable and precious. "Green Grass of Tunnel" has the sweet melancholia, coloring-book hip-hop, and slowly shifting chords of poptronica producers like isan or Boards of Canada, and also trades on the wide-eyed fairy-tale qualities of Björk. Apart from the hefty title, "Don't Be Afraid, You Have Just Got Your Eyes Closed" approaches mainstream appeal -- briefly, and at several different times -- with a nice dance beat gradually ...
