On The Outs is a gritty drama about three young girls from the same neighborhood whose lives intersect briefly in prison, giving us a powerful look at a little-seen slice of America. The film is based on the lives of real girls from the streets and juvenile jail who lent their voices to the filmmakers and exposed shocking truths about the struggle of kids everywhere who live on the fringes - on the outs - with society. Director: Lori Silverbush, Michael Skolnik. Actors: Anny Mariano, Judy Marte, Paola Mendoza, Dominic Colon, Clarence Don Hutchinson, Flaco Navaja. An independent feature that chronicles the lives of three teenage girls in Jersey City who are involved with crack cocaine, ON THE OUTS does not shy away from the hard issues involved. Between the ages of 15 and 17, Oz (Judy Marte) is a street dealer whose mom is a recovering junkie, Marisol (Paola Mendoza) is an unemployed crack addict struggling to feed her infant daughter, and Suzette (Anny Mariano) is pregnant by her homeless, crack-dealer boyfriend (Henri Marteau). All three of the girls end up in juvenile detention, and from there their lives only get harder.
Shot in a bright, color-saturated palette, with great handheld camerawork (reminiscent of early Scorcese or Nick Gomez's LAWS OF GRAVITY), this film rings with authenticity. The script, developed by Lori Silverbush, is terse and realistic, drawing on improv workshops that Silverbush held with inner-city teens who shared their actual stories. Of all the amazing performances from the actors, Marte's (RAISING VICTOR VARGAS) is the most particularly memorable and charismatic. Filmed on location throughout Jersey City, including shots at the juvenile detention center, this is an urgently important tale told with heartrending honesty, frankness, intelligence, humor, and compassion. Theatrical Release Date: July 13, 2005 (NY) On The Outs Reviews: "ON THE OUTS parses the hopes and terrors of blasted lives with an empathy that never cheapens into pity. The movie wounds as it heals, and that's its true power."

On The Outs review
$10.29 This well-made thriller harkens back to the gritty crime films of the 1970s. Bruce Willis plays Jeff Talley, a traumatized ex-LAPD hostage negotiator whose new career as small town sheriff doesn't turn out to be as restful as he had hoped; a hostage situation breaks out on "low crime Tuesday" and he is thrown right back into the business he knows all too well. Some punk kids have shot a cop and are holed up in a local mansion inhabited by crooked accountant Walter Smith (Kevin Pollak), his two kids, and a lot of surveillance cameras. Walter's young son (Jimmy Bennett) escapes his bonds and reports to Talley from the air shafts via his sister's cell phone. The sister--a Goth teen played by Michelle Horn--draws the romantic attention of Mars (Ben Foster), the pot-addled sociopath in the gang, thus adding a unique twist to the damsel-in-distress factor. Meanwhile, amid the buzzing helicopters ...

Ellie works at "The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn" and dates ladies' man Jake (Joshua Jackson), while Jimmy is a less-than-popular high school student with a crush on the prettiest girl in school (Kristina Anapau). But one night, after Ellie and Jimmy get ...
