| | Coste Apetrea Rites Of Passage CD - Import Coste Apetrea Discography of CDs
Rites Of Passage is the new solo album from progressive fusion legend Coste Apetrea. The album came about as a result of the response Coste got with the band Samla Mammas Manna who he has played in and been working with since 1972. except for a period in the end of the '70s and the '80s where Coste played with and contributed 50/50 in the Jukka Tolonen Band with whom he recorded 7 band albums and 2 acoustic guitar albums. Coste had no idea what the album was going to sound like when he started writing the music but now comments, 'I look back and I can see it is a compressed version of what I have been into during my entire career. I have a passion for all kinds of music and all kinds of instruments, but my main instrument is the guitar. The album is pretty heavy and maybe the 'rockiest' I've ever done, and that pleases me because people in my generation seem to cool down making more acoustic and softer music. I didn't intend to make a heavy record it just came out that way, today I feel I wanna go even heavier next time around (to my own surprise)."
Personnel: Coste Apetrea (vocals, guitar, keyboards, drums, percussion); Santiago Jimenez, Jr. (violin); Anders Paulsson (soprano saxophone); Ake Eriksson (drums).
Recording information: Close To The Garden Studio (2005); Crunch Mucic (2005).

| | Writing On The Wall Power Of The Picts CDs (1969) Import; Remastered
Rites Of Passage music CDs
$16.29 Digitally remastered two CD set from the late '60s/early '70s Scottish rockers featuring their very rare original Power of The Picts LP and Middle Earth label single plus a bevy of unreleased tracks and rarities. Liner notes include an interview with band's leader Jake Scott. Scottish Heavy Rock band The Writing On The Wall made it big on the underground Rock scene in the late '60s through a highly dramatic stage act. The Middle Earth club launched a label with this maniacal Rock band as lead off act, releasing a single and LP in 1969. Both items today are rare, and highly collectable, holding their worth in the Price Guides. These items form Disc One of this Power of the Picts double CD collection, its title repeating the title of the only LP. The rest of Disc Two contains the best of the other recordings made during 1971-1973 , including two stand out rockers in 'Man Of Renown' and 'Bellyful of Rock' ,recorded for a Scottish TV show . Ork.
Writing on the Wall's only album was theatrical heavy blues-psychedelic-rock that, despite its power and menace, was too obviously derivative of better and more original artists to qualify as a notable work. The organ-guitar blends owe much to the Doors, Procol Harum, and Traffic, though the attitude is somehow more sour and ominous than any of those groups. The vocals are sometimes pretty blatant in their homages to Arthur Brown, particularly when Linnie ...
