This sequel to 1999's lauded TROZOS DE MI ALMA (which translates as "pieces of my soul") finds revered Mexican crooner Marco Antonio Solis settling into another set of gentle Spanish-language pop ballads. Highlights of the album include the dreamy "Antes De Que Te Vayas" and the soaring, string-laden "Dios Bendiga Nuestro Amor."

$13.95 WHEN DREAM & DAY UNITE, the major label debut from prog-metal act Dream Theater, includes the tracks "YTSE Jam" and "Only A Matter Of Time."
Dream Theater's first official release gave an indication that this was a talented band that combined the styles of Yes, Rush, and Queensr˙che. The latter seemed to be too big of an influence at this stage of their career. Vocalist Charlie Dominici's voice is not powerful enough to carry out the band's otherwise convincing intensity, and his attempt to sound like Queensr˙che's Geoff Tate was unsuccessful. The music here is not as heavy as it would become in the '90s but ...

| | Earl Musick Done Deal CD (1995)
Trozos De Mi Alma, Vol. 2 CD music
$13.89 Despite his terrific name, Earl Musick plays a rather two-dimensional brand of rock-influenced contemporary country. The crunchy, screaming guitars and basslines sound like some pretty decent mid-'80s bar band rock, while the songs usually revolve around winnin' and losin' and havin' a fine time on a Saturday night. Probably the best thing about this CD is that the booklet smells a lot like cigars. ~ Zac Johnson
Earl Musick has been a mainstay of the Texas music scene for more than thirty years. In addition to being a prolific songwriter, he is also an accomplished left-handed guitar player, vocalist and performer. In 1987 he released his first album, "Apropos", with the Unsung Heroes, on his own label, Reload Records. His 1995 solo release of "DONE DEAL" was met with great acclaim. Music City Texas Publisher / Editor John Conquest wrote, "Just to show that Austin has no monopoly on unclassifiable or "what the hell do you call that" music, along comes a Fort Worth singer-songwriter and his "River Bottom Boogie." With an instrumental line-up that includes pedal and lap steel guitars and mandolin along with synthesizers, organ and congas, Musick is clearly doing things his own way, and the end result could be called country-funk, which sounds awful but is actually rather effective and interesting. He has a big, clear country ...
