While the beats here don't exactly break new ground (several, in fact, are directly reminiscent of tracks from PURPLE HAZE), Cam'ron's command of the mic still impresses. Whether reeling off gangsta narratives ("He Tried to Play Me"), digs at Jay-Z ("You Gotta Love It"), or oddly detailing his irritable bowel syndrome ("I.B.S."), Cam'ron has a witty, quick-tongued approach that can truly dazzle. While not the masterpiece many were expecting, KILLA SEASON still contains plenty to satisfy more than just Dipset fans.
In the two years following his critically acclaimed release PURPLE HAZE, rapper Cam'ron garnered as much attention for his off-stage antics as he did for his music. But 2006's KILLA SEASON proves that the leader of the Dipset click has been up to more than getting carjacked and dissing other MCs; the album finds the artist expertly brandishing the highly honed skills listeners have come to appreciate from previous efforts.
Personnel: Cam'ron (rap vocals); 40 Cal., Lil Wayne, Mo Money, Jim Jones , Hell Rell, Juelz Santana (rap vocals).
Rolling Stone (p.92) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "The highlights are the unsparingly honest 'I.B.S.' and 'Leave You Alone'....KILLA SEASON proves Cam'ron can still bring heady verbiage and heat..." Cam'Ron Killa Season Songs Killa Season Music Review Average Rating: (3.9 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews this was garbage I loved Come Home wit me and Purple Haze but this might be the worst rap album Ive ever wasted my money and time on. I wouldnt even download this and burn it to me it be a waste of a blank disc. When Cam comes back I hope that he brings better quality work with him if not the he should just stay gone he is a decent rapper but nothing special at all I couldnt belive it when I heard that he was coming after Jay-Z I dont really like Jay but Cam cant mess with Jay Lryicaly and this album shows that he is almost a rookie MC compared to Jay Z Submitted by Travis Baldwin (Merlin,Oregon,USA) Was This Review Helpful? | | Pretty Ricky Bluestars CD (2005)
Killa Season CD music
$10.09 "Get You Right," a smooth throwback ballad from Miami outfit Pretty Ricky's debut, BLUESTARS, features a hardcore rap that name-checks 1990s groups H-Town and Jodeci. While the four youthful brothers of Pretty Ricky were likely in grade school when these artists had their hits, it's a fitting reference; the quartet's sound reveals an innate feel for the New Jack Swing sound of that time. This approach is evident in both the record's production and its raw sensuality, and the overall vibe is updated with a Dirty South sensibility.
Pretty Ricky features three rappers--Slick, Spectacular, and Diamond--augmented by the resonant voice of Pleasure, whose alluring style falls somewhere between Stevie Wonder and R. Kelly. The subject matter of BLUESTARS tends toward that of the latter (but often hints at the depth of the former), moving from seductions sweet and innocent ("I Want You [Girlfriend]") to raw and lascivious ("Grind with ...

| | Styles P Time Is Money CD (2006)
Killa Season album
$12.65 Styles P had been through his share of trials and tribulations, between the success of his certified gold debut, A GANGSTER AND A GENTLEMEN, and the release of its much-delayed follow-up, TIME IS MONEY. After a brief prison term for assault, Styles's label drama began, and he chose to go the mixtape route, recording three while Interscope put TIME IS MONEY on the back burner. Nearly two years after its first single came out, the Lox's most laidback crew member's ...
| | Ice Cube Laugh Now, Cry Later CD (2006)
Killa Season CD music
$15.65 The decade following 1992's THE PREDATOR found Ice Cube releasing a handful of mediocre albums (none of which lived up to the standards of his first three solo releases) and devoting his time to other activities (including writing and directing films). But 2006's LAUGH NOW, CRY LATER reminded the world that Cube is still one of the most forceful voices in hardcore hip-hop, a game he helped create the rules for.
The guest roster glitters with all-stars, including Snoop Dogg, Dre, and crunk king Lil Jon. Cube's familiar delivery still crackles with fierce intensity, especially on the politically militant album opener "Why We Thugs," which takes the federal government to task for the condition ...
| | Heltah Skeltah Nocturnal CD (1996)
Killa Season music CDs
$11.69 Principally recorded at Dolla Cab Lab, Brooklyn, New York; Chung King Studios, Unique Studios and D&D Studios, New York, New York.
Samples include "The Look Of Love" (as performed by Jonny Pate & Orchestra), "Danube" (as performed by Lalo Schifrin), "Blame It On My Youth" and "I Cover The Water Front (I See The Horizon)" (as performed by Gloria Lynne).
Heltah Skeltah is the third act to emerge from under the wings of Brooklyn's Boot Camp Clique, following Black Moon and Smif-N-Wessun. The two rappers in Heltah Skeltah sport a similar underground style to their mentors in Black Moon, with basic production and off-the-top-of-the-head rhymes. The production here is darker, but maintains a funky appeal.
NOCTURNAL is a true lyrical album. It focuses primarily on the the duo's nearly-unmatchable microphone skills. Rock and Ruck spit rhymes back and forth, almost non-stop, as if they could go on for days. Their combination of hip-hop realism and head-nodding beats makes this a solid debut.
Heltah Skeltah is comprised of MCs Ruck and Rock, two members of the loose-knit East Coast congregation Boot Camp Clik. The duo's debut establishes the crew as one of the most powerful members of the Clik, both in terms of technique and production. Most of Nocturnal is straight-ahead East Coast gangsta rap with layered soundscapes, and even if these soundscapes are seamlessly crafted, they are only there as a backdrop -- the main intent of the entire album is to showcase the talents of Ruck and Rock, and do they ever display their talents. Throughout the album, Ruck and Rock create a series of intertwining rhymes that are lyrical, hard, and ...
