De Ti Depende
$9.09 To call el Gran Combo de Puerto Rico a salsa classic would be the understatement of a lifetime. Words like "mythic" or "legendary" would better describe their weight and ubiquitous presence in the salsa world. Their 2004 release Aquí Estamos y...de Verdad! is in keeping with their tradition of excellence, and the Latin Grammy nomination it garnered is well deserved. Musical director Rafael Ithier favors the round, warm sound that made el Gran Combo the household name that it is. From the vocal approach to the horn and percussion section, the common goal seems to be salsa as smooth as possible. The youthful fire and passion emulated by younger artists is replaced by el Combo's mature elegance. From the photo on the cover to the wise musical sensibility of Aquí Estamos y...de Verdad!, some might consider the package outdated -- la salsa de mis abuelos. El Gran Combo might not win any new fans with this release, but on the other hand, they don't need to. They deliver the classic, flawless musical stylings that won the hearts of their people, and later the world. Sometimes it's refreshing when an artist does not try to reinvent himself. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez

| | El Cantante CD (2007)
De Ti Depende
$9.79 Released in conjunction with the 2007 film EL CANTANTE, the bio-pic of the legendary salsa singer Hector Lavoe, this soundtrack is a grand and fitting tribute to the "Cantante de los Cantantes" ("singer of singers"). Marc Anthony's rich, expressive, and nuanced voice is up to the task of recreating Lavoe's charismatic performances. He shines on Lavoe's signature tune "El Cantante," ...

$9.35 Mixing in tracks from 1971's rather weak London Howlin' Wolf Sessions with poorly captured bootleg recordings from an early-'60s European tour, this set of Howlin' Wolf selections has been issued several times under different titles over the years, including as Killing Floor from Charly Records in 1996 and again under that title in ...

$9.99 During 1998-2004, John Murphy wrote and demoed a number of tracks which finally found their way onto the split Meiche / For Ruin demo. During early 2004, John relocated to Valencia, Spain and immediately began writing and recording again, buoyed by encouraging reviews of the first For Ruin demo in many publications.Winter '05 - a second demo 'SHADE ' was completed. It features 6 tracks of more advanced material than that found on the Split demo, and includes an improved version of Vertigo. In November 2005, the initial lineup was formed and joined an Irish tour with Mael Mordha in early February 2006 as well as playing a number of other gigs including an appearance at the 2006 Day of Darkness festival.During late 2006 Murphy was joined by drummer Barry English, guitarist Drew Myers and bassist Barry O´Sullivan. The band scheduled many gigs in late 2006 in support of their latest demo CD "Obsidian" and recorded and released a live DVD in January 2007.In January 2007, the band secured a recording contract with Sentinel Records, Ireland. During March 2007 the band recorded their debut album "December", released in Autumn 2007. It is the first For Ruin release not to be played solely by Murphy, and features a raw, live production, with all members showing their abilities on a number of tracks that featured on the demos, as well as a number of previously unreleased new tracks. The band play with Napalm Death in August and Massacre in November 2007 as well as playing their own shows in support of ...
