Bizzy Bone is an MC best known for his work with Cleveland rap crew Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, famous for their unique sing-sing approach to rapping. THUG'S REVENGE, the rapper's sixth solo release, delivers more no-nonsense hip-hop with hard-hitting beats outfitting Bizzy's dexterous rapid-fire street narratives. Bizzy is joined by his entire clique here, including Mr. Capone-E, Layzie Bone, and Mr. Criminal, among others, which makes for a varied listen. The quality and fierce energy displayed here are similar to that found on Bizzy's THE STORY, another 2006 release.

I AM. SASHA FIERCE represents another change of pace for Beyoncé. Unlike the relatively streamlined, retro-soul inflected B'DAY, I AM... is a sprawling two-disc set designed to reflect two conflicting sides of Beyoncé's musical personality. The first disc sports reflective, sometimes moody ballads, while the second, attributed to Beyoncé's brash alter ego, Sasha Fierce, is loaded with propulsive dance-floor fillers. Except for this stylistic divide, I AM. pays only nominal attention to its supposed concept, focusing instead on a set of excellent, radio-ready songs--neatly avoiding the possibility of I AM. becoming some sort of Chris Gaines-style conceptual disaster. Though the second disc, which boasts the synth-drenched lead single, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," is more immediately gratifying, the impeccably produced ballads of the first disc represent a vast improvement on the often awkward torch songs that weighed down Beyoncé's first solo record.

For sweet, sensual boy-band pop minus the hip-hop pretensions of the Backstreet Boys or the overblown attitude of N Sync, look no further than the four young men of 98 Degrees. The group's lush, smooth harmonies made them a veritable hit machine, and THE COLLECTION attests to their staying power in both the pop charts and the collective pop culture consciousness. They've managed to stay ahead of the curve by staying close to their R&B roots; from "Why (Are We Still Friends)" to "This Gift," the songs here stick pretty close to the simmering, slow jam mode that is at the heart of the group's appeal. In fact, one of the most uptempo tracks is saved for the very end, as the lads launch into the percolating "True to Your Heart" with a vocal assist from no less a personage than Stevie Wonder (the R&B legend also contributes some of his trademark chromatic harmonica work). If that kind of endorsement isn't enough for you, then nothing more can be done.
