ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra): Dave Brogan, Steve Adams , Dan Lebowitz, Zach Gill.
Although FLY BETWEEN FALLS is only the second official full-length release from California's ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra), the band has been performing for over 15 years. The chemistry and stylistic confidence borne of playing together for such a long time is evident on the album's assured songwriting and easygoing, front-porch grooves, which owe a major debt to both the folk-influenced aspects of the Grateful Dead and that band's contemporary equivalent in the jam bands of the 2000s.
That FLY BETWEEN FALLS was issued on Jack Johnson's Brushfire label doesn't come as a surprise. ALO's mellow, acoustic-rooted folk and funky backbeat bears a resemblance to Johnson's own music (Johnson even guests on "Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down"). The whole album has the good-natured, ambling vibe of California neo-hippie rock, which makes it perfect for a sun-baked, lazy afternoon.

Fly Between Falls music CDs
$12.65 ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra): Dan Lebowitz, Zach Gill (guitar); Steve Adams (bass guitar); Dave Brogan (drums).
Santa Barbara-based jam band ALO comes off as a worthy descendent of a musical tradition that includes the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band, although they may be closer to, say, the Doobie Brothers than to the gods of the genre. The musical interplay of guitarist Dan Lebowitz, keyboardist Zach Gill, bassist Steve Adams, and drummer David Brogan suggests plenty of time spent wood-shedding, and they come up with catchy rock songs in which the choruses are followed by inventive soloing. But they lean more to the pop side of their style. Their playing has little of the bluesy grit of the Allman Brothers, and their songs, with lyrics overwhelmingly concerned with romantic ...

| | Lady Gaga Fame Monster CDs (2009) Deluxe Edition
Fly Between Falls album
$16.24 Initially planned solely as a standard double-disc reissue in the wake of the blockbuster success of The Fame, Lady Gaga decided to release the new material as a separate EP called The Fame Monster in addition to the standard two-CD set, where it's tacked onto a now standardized version of her debut. It's a nice move for fans, plus it helps emphasize the new material, which does act as a bridge from the debut to a forthcoming full-length. Everything on The Fame Monster bears a galvanized Eurotrash finish, as evident on the heavy steel synths of "Bad Romance" and ...

| | Buck Owens Ruby & Other Bluegrass Specials CD (1971)
Fly Between Falls songs
$11.79 1971 was a good year for Buck Owens to try new things. Early in the year, he released an album of folk-rock tunes featuring covers of Paul Simon and Bob Dylan compositions, and a few months later he headed back into the roots of country music with this set of classic bluegrass tunes. While many of the performances on Ruby & Other Bluegrass Specials might ruffle the feathers of bluegrass purists with the presence of drums, electric bass, backing choruses, and the occasional presence of organ and piano, there's no arguing that Buck and this lineup of the Buckaroos tear into these ten tracks with the enthusiasm of true fans. Ron Jackson's rollicking banjo anchors these sessions, and the great Don Rich shows he was as strong a hand on the fiddle as he was on electric guitar, while Buck sings with a passion ...

Fly Between Falls music CDs
$10.15 Four years is a VERY long time to have a band together and not have put out a CD (in recent times at least). And if you've witnessed Sidewalk Driver's live show (complete with costume changes, glitter, smoke machines, fake eyelashes and MORE) you've wanted to take some SD home with you. So it was with great anticipation and total dread that I approached listening to our press copy of their DEBUT CD, For All the Boys & Girls. Dread, because I was worried that this would not live up to the live renditions of the songs that I often find myself humming days after seeing a show. After a week of the new record being on repeat at HQ I can say that it is totally awesome. The songs, hooks, and performances are incredibly strong and this debut will make a big splash.-Sophia Cacciola, Boston Band Crush---TAD McKITTERICK: Vocals, Keys; KATE MURDOCH: Electric & Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, ...
