This Is Your Land: Folk Essentials is a budget-priced set of Cliff's notes from BMG Special Products for the folk music impaired. As far as samplers go, it's not bad, as artists like Odetta, Leadbelly, Brothers Four, and the Limeliters are giants of the era, but Calypso legend Harry Belafonte's version of "This Land Is Your Land" is by no means the definitive one (that would be by Woody Guthrie's) and the Tokens' "Lion Sleeps Tonight (Wimoweh)" may be an indisputable classic, but it's far from a "folk" essential. ~ James Christopher Monger Folk Essentials Review
