Love Tractor's second album since Michael Richmond reinvented the group as a progressive rock outfit with 2005's Black Hole, Green Winter is a collection of ten dream-like pieces which don't spin quite as dark a mood as Black Hole but still conjure up the feeling of a slow-moving netherworld quite a ways apart from Love Tractor's work of the 1980s. The more pastoral moments recall Traffic during their John Barleycorn Must Die period, while much of the rest is dotted with washes of synthesizer and electronic sounds which suggest Love Tractor is slowly evolving into a Dixie-fried space rock outfit. The band even eases into something resembling blues and boogie on "Greenfield Rock" and acid-tinged ska on "Pain and Suffering," while they also pause to cover the Roxy Music chestnut "Three and Nine." Green Winter is a more coherent and unified effort than Black Hole, and the players behind guitarist Richmond -- Billy Homes on keys, Ben Holst on guitar, Tom Lewis on bass, and Darren Stanley on drums -- sounds more like a band than a collection of musicians this time out. Still, Green Winter doesn't move forward so much as it ambles aimlessly, and even though the playful quality of the album is welcome, most of Green Winter sounds like it was more fun to play than to hear. Every musician has the right to reinvent himself, but Richmond's new sonic direction is significantly less interesting than his earlier legacy, and the sunnier vibe of Green Winter only makes that clear. ~ Mark Deming

| Green Winter Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Awesome CD I really love this CD, even tho the cover art is el cheapo.
Great songs. Happy sounds.
It flows smoothly even though all the songs are totally different.
Right up there with other Tractor greats like Sky at Night and the bands first album. Good summer party album.
I have it in rotation with my other favorite summer party CD's, like XTC Skylarking ( buy that one too ! also awesome !

Stellar, cohesive outing from the re-energized LT As good as Black Hole was, the re-organized Love Tractor is back with a stonger, more cohesive effort with Green Winter...their second outing in less than a year. The songs and musicianship are first rate, but there is a better flow, the songs fit better together for a stonger album. Definitely one of the best outings from LT regardless of you favorite period. Right up there with Love Tractor and Themes From Venus
Saturn Rings is great opener, and would be the first single, if singles were still released these days. A swirling song that takes the theme of love on a trip through the universe.
Wrong Turn is a Allman Brothers like workout with guitar and keyboard solos woven tastefully into the song.
LT has covered some great songs in the past including Party Train, Neon Lights. 3 and 9, the Roxy Music song, is not one you'd want to cover unless you had something to add. The acoustic guitar and synthesizer version here is one of the highlights of the album.
Green Field Rock is a straightforward Blues tune. Pain and Suffering a humorous look at love with a steady, steady beat.
The album closes with the mournful Green Winter.
If you are a Lover Tractor fan or just a music and musicianship, you owe it to yourself to buy this CD. Hope that Love Tractor goes on tour to support this release and look for the next CD that is apparently close to complete

It's always a sign that a group is hot if they release a holiday album mere months after their debut. That's the case with *NSYNC. Their debut was released in America in late March, and in early December, Home for Christmas hit the shelves. Much of the album is devoted to newer material, with only ...
| | Elvis Presley ELV1S: 30 # 1 Hits CD (2002) Remastered
Green Winter songs
$10.39 Includes liner notes Peter Guralnick and Ernst Mikael Jorgensen.
Commemorating the 25th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, 30 #1 HITS presents a career-spanning serving of the King's chart-toppers.
Dating back to "Heartbreak Hotel" (which was inspired by a suicide note printed in the Miami Herald), most of these cuts have become indelibly etched into the fabric of pop culture and each has a unique story behind it. "Love Me Tender" has its origins in the Civil War ballad "Aura Lee," "It's Now Or Never" found Elvis Americanizing the Neapolitan ballad "O Sole Mio," and "Wooden Heart" likewise was converted from a German children's song.
This Memphis native's choice of artists to cover was equally intriguing and includes Hollywood legend Al Jolson ("Are You Lonesome Tonight?"), New Orleans soul shouter Smiley Lewis ("One Night"), blues great Big Mama Thornton ("Hound Dog"), and country titan Hank Snow ("[Now And Then There's] ...

Digitally remastered by George Horn (1995, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
Guided, perhaps, by musical snobbery or roots-rock phobia, some people inexplicably don't like Creedence Clearwater Revival. As the kings of earnest country-inflected rock in an age when radical stances were de rigueur, CCR sported straight-ahead tunes, and may have seemed a bit unhip. But their music stands the test of time with a vengeance. For the doubtful listener, this outstanding, 20-track hits collection has evidence of their greatness in staggering abundance.
Though they produced several excellent albums, Creedence was predominantly a singles band, and CHRONICLE compiles many of their biggest hits. From the slowly building saunter of "Suzie Q" and the spooky, R&B-soaked "I Put a Spell on You" to ...

With the CHARTBUSTERS series, Ace highlights the years 1964-1969, a period in which US artists responded to the British Invasion with their own twist on the sound. The Lovin' Spoonful and the Mamas & The Papas drew on their folk club origins; the Seeds reduced the beat/R&B sound to its very essence, while groups like Sly & The Family Stone pioneered new sounds.
