| | Barbra Streisand Love Is The Answer CD (2009) Bonus Track
Mack The Knife CD music
$11.45 Even before their first session together, Barbra Streisand and collaborator Diana Krall designed LOVE IS THE ANSWER as a deeply emotional record: "each song an exploration concerning matters of the heart." And with the arrangements of maestro Johnny Mandel simply drawing occasional shading around Streisand's expressive voice--often leaving that voice as the only instrument--the album goes well beyond the usual saloon-song tropes to become a heart-wrenching experience on virtually every track. Additionally, although much was made of the two divas' collaboration, Krall's piano stays in the background, and Streisand's is the only voice heard here. Nearly every song is a classic of tender balladry, despite the fact that none had been put on album by Streisand before during her long career. Those facts alone should leave Streisand fans in ecstasy, as practically nothing stands in the way as she sings some of the best songs of the last century, aching and sincere with every melancholy or lovelorn ballad, tenderly strident with every (ultimately) uplifting anthem. "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" opens up like a flower akin to some of her ...

| | Sarah Brightman Eden CD (1998)
Mack The Knife songs
$11.39 With EDEN, Broadway diva Sarah Brightman ("Requiem," "Cats") stretches beyond the constraints of what's considered show music. Here, she sings an assortment of classical adaptations, rock, and sleek modern pop songs.
The entrancing opener, "In Paradisum" combines pre-recorded nature sounds, atmospheric textures, and echoes of Gregorian chant, setting the regal and eclectic mood. "Nella Fantasia" is an adaptation of a tune by movie soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone, with Italian lyrics by Ferrau, and here the exquisite longing in Brightman's voice transcends all language ...
| | Carpenters Now And Then CD (1973) Remastered
Mack The Knife album
$7.85 Featuring a surprisingly poignant cover photo of a suburban house--not unlike the Downey, California homestead in which Karen and Richard Carpenter grew up--NOW AND THEN is a concept album about the music that inspired Karen and Richard in their childhood. Besides the hit single "Sing" and a charming take on Hank Williams' "Jambalaya," the centerpiece of NOW AND THEN is Richard Carpenter and John Bettis' nostalgic "Yesterday Once More.
The song opens and closes a side-long medley of early-'60s pop hits that includes the Beach Boys' "Fun Fun Fun," Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World," the Crystals' "Da Doo Ron Ron" and Jan and Dean's "Deadman's Curve." Also included are Shelly Fabares' "Johnny Angel," Bobby Vee's "The Night Has A Thousand Eyes," Ruby and the Romantics' "Our Day Will Come," and the Chiffons' "One Fine Day." Given Karen's immense skills as an interpretive singer, not one of the covers is less than interesting, and most are flat-out wonderful.

| | Bette Midler Divine Miss M CD (1972) Remastered
Mack The Knife CD music
$5.99 Years of acting in comedies and performing Las Vegas revues have clouded public perception of Bette Midler; people tend to forget now just how completely weird she was in 1972, how she skirted on the edges of taboo. Absurdly sexy, defiantly trashy, and unafraid of crossing musical boundaries whenever she felt like it, the Bette Midler of her debut, THE DIVINE MISS M, is someone truly remarkable. That this sense of adventurousness was eventually replaced by more mainstream aspirations is somewhat of a shame, but at least for this album, something truly new was happening.
The record starts with a sultry, sexy re-imagination of Bobby Freeman's "Do You Want to Dance?" as a more carnal invitation than the dance-party original, and moves through ...
| | Denise LaSalle Still Bad CD (1994)
Mack The Knife music CDs
$13.89 Still Bad demonstrated that at 54, Denise LaSalle was still very much on top of her game. As its title indicates, the veteran soul and blues singer hadn't mellowed with age--those who love to hear LaSalle taking a sassy, in-your-face approach won't be disappointed by trash-talking numbers like "1-900-GET-SOME," "Right Side of the Wrong Bed" or "The Bitch Is Bad." But true to form, LaSalle has no problem turning around and showing a more sensitive side of herself on "Child of the Ghetto," an inspiring, poignant ballad describing a poor woman's determination to improve her life. LaSalle's Malaco output of the 1980s and 1990s ...
| | Marvey King CD (2005)
Mack The Knife songs
$17.09 Originally from Auckland, New Zealand now living in Sydney. This young woman has gone from strength to strength. Marvey's first single Rosary was recorded under the Felix label an off shoot from Wildside Records that nurtured such bands as Shihad (aka 'pacificer') head like a hole and more, the single shot to No 4 in the charts, an amazing achievement for her first release. The music video (included on the CD) for Rosary was nominated for an award at the Juice Awards, and Surreal, a slow haunting song went to No 1 on Swedish Radio. Marvey has toured extensively throughout New Zealand, and the US, getting strong response from her repertoire at the Ghengis Khan in LA. Marvey has supported bands such as Op-shop, Stoods, Ben King and The Feelers. Marvey also supported Jackson Browne when he toured New Zealand two years ago. Marvey has finished her ...

Mack The Knife music CDs
$17.89 There was a period of time in the 1990s when heavy metal -- and especially bands that thrived a decade earlier -- seemed dead and extinct, respectively. But come the early 21st century, bands were no longer ashamed to voice their admiration of groups like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest -- resulting in a host of new, similarly styled outfits, including Violent Storm. Led by former Ritchie Blackmore and Yngwie Malmsteen bassist Mick Cervino (who pens most of the band's music and lyrics), Violent Storm issued their debut album, Storm Warning, in 2007. And there are obvious reasons why the album harkens back to vintage '80s metal -- tops being that Priest's K.K. Downing produced the album. Additionally, Downing also contributed some guitar solos, as did Malmsteen and Roy Z (the latter of whom has produced albums for Bruce Dickinson, Helloween, and Priest). The result is an album that wouldn't sound out of place being blasted out of a Camaro on the set of Heavy Metal Parking Lot, especially such tracks as the album-opening ...
