Diesler picked up a huge number of fans, including Gilles Peterson and Mr Scruff, with his debut album 'Diggin It Somethin Rotten' released last year. This lead to a variety of remixes for labels such as Raw Fusion, Afro Art, Freestyle and Ninja Tune, and increased DJ bookings across the world. As a prolific young producer he has not slacked off, he has put his head down to quickly follow up with his second album. The new record finds him collaborating with more musicians, with an emphasis on writing and producing a few more songs as well as quality dancefloor rockers. And, as you'd hope for from a Tru Thoughts artist, there is a real fusion of music going on here: Brazilian, Cuban, funk, Latin, soul and jazz, all fused together with a 21st Century sound. By the time this record first appeared in 1971 on George Shearing's short-lived Sheba label, jazz was in the doldrums due to the preponderance of rock on radio and in record stores. Shearing formed his own label in an attempt to control his own destiny, and singer Joe Williams was one of the first people he asked to appear on with him. The two veterans are joined by bassist Andy Simpkins and drummer Stix Hooper for a collection of ballads (both familiar and obscure) that feature either "heart" and/or "soul" in their titles. They work very well together due to their love of great melodies and their ability to build upon them.
