Kenya (Sanaa Lathan) is a beautiful, successful lawyer with loving parents and a close-knit group of supportive friends--but, predictably, no love life to speak of Something New film. Out for drinks on Valentine's Day, she and her girlfriends lament the difficulty of finding the "ideal black man" (successful, educated, and attractive), and the point is driven home when a coworker sets Kenya up on a blind date with a successful, educated, and attractive landscape architect named Brian (Simon Baker)--who turns out to be, to her surprise and dismay, white Something New review. While Kenya at first tries to deny their obvious attraction, the two soon start a relationship; and though they have undeniable chemistry, cultures clash Something New DVD.
The plot of SOMETHING NEW is not, in fact, actually new, combining many of the usual truisms of romantic comedies and interracial dramas. ...See Full Description

| Refreshing! Something New movie Refreshing!! I can't stop watching it. I hope both Simon and Sanaa will make more movies together. The Chemistry between those two was stimulating. It was so, so, beautiful to watch. I loved everything about it. EVERYTHING!! I did not know such a movie existed until it came on television one night. I loved it so much that I called Blockbuster Video to see if they had it, and they did. I've been watching it over and over again. I going to buy it, so I can watch it whenever I want to. Thank you for such a Great Movie!! I love the way Brian takes hard earth and makes things bloom. If I had any hardness it disappears when I watch the movie. Love has a wonderful way of taking all the hardness away. I can go on and one so I'm going to stop now. By wperone (Connecticut) |
| Excellent Movie Something New video I loved every minute of this movie. I was so glad to see a movie done with taste, true to life and a good sense of humor. To the dude who said that black women don't know how to love, well your wrong I'm black and I know how to love, you first have to start with loving yourself, but the ultimate Love is that of Jesus Christ coming to this earth to give His life for a fallen and sinful mankind. As his word says, no greater love hath a man then a man that would lay down his life for a friend. So its not all about "eros" love= sexual. Its agape that really counts, loving at all time even when the person is unlovable. So to you sir, I do know how to love because I am loved. Also the white guy was really cute! | We Are Lovable, Too Something New film In response to the reviewer in Miami. Perhaps you live in a "Miami" on another planet. Please visit good old Earth because here there are far more than "2" Black women. (Written words are hard to discern at times so I must mention that I am writing this "lovingly") I'm not sure if you saw this movie since you really didn't write a review. Watch Sanaa closely. She does an excellent portrayal of a women who starts out hard but with the right man learns to soften her heart not only toward him but his dog, too. This is also true of a man with the right woman(and even her dog). The special features are very enlightening, as well. An added note--most of the major players behind this movie are women of color and I believe there were more than 2. By Vonda (Pittsburgh, PA, USA) This review is for a different format. |
| Hoping For More I headlined my review "Hoping for More" because I hope there will be more movies like this, (Black woman/White man) in the near future. It was enjoyable to see a white man attracted to a black woman as opposed to films that mostly show Black men falling all over themselves to get next to a White woman. As an African American woman, I wanted to tell the makers of this movie "Thank you for showing that we indeed are lovable, too!" What's probably overlooked but stayed with me throughout the movie is that it is the character Kenya's coworker (who's white) who set up this blind date. She was obviously aware that her two friends were different but it never dawned on her that there would be a problem. That small role stayed with me throughout the film. I was glad to see that the writers left the "jokes" to the comedians. Sanaa and Simon were very believable. "Something Dew" tells a story of interracial dating from a very small point of view--friends & family--and of course that should be the only ones that matter.
