This fascinating collection of early 1970s prog-rock was the first and last release from this trio, which comprised members of the Nice (after its keyboardist and leader, Keith Emerson, had left to form ELP), and Emerson's Swiss replacement, Patrick Moraz. The pieces, which include jazz-rock as well as prog, are made up of suites, movements, themes, variations, and other borrowings from classical music, and though the music perhaps lacks the histrionic, knife-wielding edginess of the vintage Emerson-led Nice, the performances are uniformly excellent.
Refugee was seen by the British music press at least as an attempt to revive the legendary British progressive rock band The Nice. While two thirds of The Nice (Lee Jackson and Brian Davison) were involved in Refugee the addition of Swiss born keyboard virtuoso Patrick Moraz ensured that the project whilst having the progressive ideals of The Nice was in fact something altogether different. The album has been re mastered for this release and will certainly be of interest to the large and dedicated Patrick Moraz fan base and also of interest to Yes fans through Patrick's membership of the band and lovers of progressive rock music.

Refugee album
$10.49 Progressive rock keyboardist Moraz (The Moody Blues) delievers the goods on this solo album with tracks like "Impact" and "Best Years Of Our Lives."
Former Yes and Moody Blues keyboardist Patrick Moraz mixes numerous Latin and rock rhythms together via his lively synth work, resulting in a full-flavored, energetic album. Not typical sounding to say the least, there are hints of funk and marimba, Caribbean and South American styles, and even flamenco, all guided by Moraz's whirlwind keyboard playing. ...
| | Yes Drama CD (1980) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Refugee CD music
$6.35 It was widely assumed that when vocalist/songwriter Jon Anderson left Yes at the end of the '70s, the band was doomed. Most folks forgot that bassist/composer Chris Squire was the other founding member of the band, and he had as much to do with their sound as Anderson. It was surprising enough when the band decided to continue with a new vocalist and keyboardist. It was even more surprising when the new members turned out to be Trevor Horn (later a famed pop producer) and Geoff Downes (who would soon depart with Steve Howe for Asia). And it was downright shocking when the resultant album DRAMA turned out to be a great one.
While Horn's voice is in the same general range as Anderson's, he tends to blend more with the vocals of Howe and Squire for a distinctive three-part harmony sound. Similarly, the individual instrumental statements of Howe and Downes avoid grandstanding in favor of the group dynamic. Consequently, DRAMA is one of Yes' most direct, concise offerings, full of relatively short songs that still maintain all the Yes ...
| | Steve Hackett Voyage Of The Acolyte CD (1975) (Import) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; United Kingdom
Refugee music CDs
$8.79 The essence of progressive music is characterized perfectly on Voyage of the Acolyte, Steve Hackett's first solo album. The former Genesis guitarist uses his instrumental mastery to conjure up musical images of sorcerers, magic, and old English castles with the primary use of keyboards and electric guitar. Phil Collins on drums and vibraphone and Mike Rutherford on bass and fuzz 12-string contribute their talents to the churning synthesizers that accompany each passage. The basic instrumental elements of progressive rock are heard ...

$7.59 Combining layered vocals with a heavily looped guitar sound, "Until We Sleep" begins ABOUT FACE with an almost Byrds-like quality, while the gentleness of the acoustic opening to the ballad "Murder" disguises its homicidal subject matter. ...
| | David Gilmour CD (1978) Remastered
Refugee album
$6.79 Before David Gilmour virtually "became" Pink Floyd he was always the most likely member of the band (with the possible exception of de-facto leader Roger Waters) to release a solo album. 1978's welcome eponymous debut showcased his multi-faceted performing talents.
The album opener "Mihalis" is an ANIMALS period instrumental, which, along with "Raise My Rent," sounds like an outtake from that album. The beautiful "There's No Way Out of Here" begins with a lonely harmonica and, with "No Way" and "I Can't Breathe Anymore," expounds the album's main theme of being trapped in an untenable situation. "Cry From the Streets" is a nod to the blues, while the lovely "So Far Away" harks back to the ballads of OBSCURED BY CLOUDS. Almost a missing mid-period Floyd album, this solo effort is a must-have for all Pink Floyd fans.
By the time of David Gilmour's solo debut, he had not only established ...
