RCA/Legacy's 2006 release The Essential Jim Reeves is a repackaged reissue of BMG Heritage's 2003 compilation Anthology, containing a different title and cover art, but bearing the same 40 tracks and annotation. There has been no shortage of Jim Reeves compilations over the years, ranging from cheap budget-line collections to Bear Family's absurdly comprehensive 16-CD set, Welcome to My World. In between those two extremes were 1993's double-disc Welcome to My World: The Essential Jim Reeves and 1995's single-disc The Essential Jim Reeves, both of which covered the basics quite well, and 2000s double-disc German release The Singles, 1953 to 1960, an excellent distillation of his peak years. Despite the strengths of these releases, no set offered such a wide-ranging and complete overview as this superb collection, now titled The Essential Jim Reeves. Spanning 40 tracks over two discs, the set begins with his first big hit, "Mexican Joe" in 1953, and ends with "Angels Don't Lie," which charted in 1970, six years after his tragic death in 1964. Reeves had plenty of hits even after 1970 -- he appeared on the Billboard country charts regularly for 20 years after his death -- and he had so many hits during his lifetime that they can't all be condensed into one 40-track collection, but what makes The Essential Jim Reeves so good is its expert song selection. It picks both the biggest hits and greatest songs, making this both the best hits collection and summary of his career for those who want a thorough but not exhaustive overview of his work. Those other collections are excellent in different ways, but this is the one that should be in every country collection. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Essential Jim Reeves Music Essential Jim Reeves Songs Essential Jim Reeves Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) not so essential ! This is just a repackaged over priced reissue of the 2003 release "Anthology" which was a good collection in its own right. But this new release offers nothing more than new front and rear artwork everything else is as the previoue release. Submitted by peteratsilton (united kingdom) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Essential Jim Reeves
$9.95 Arranger: J.J. Jackson. Soul belter J.J. Jackson is best known for his 1967 smash, "But It's Alright," but he has some fine singles and a couple of excellent albums as well, and 1967's But It's Alright on the Calla label is one of them. Kicking off with the infectious title track, the record alternates between flat-out rockers like "I Dig Girls," "Come See Me (I'm Your Man)" (which was written by Jackson, covered by the Pretty Things, and then reclaimed powerfully here), and "Boogaloo Baby," midtempo groovers like "You've Got Me Dizzy" and "The Stones That I Throw," and ballads like "Try Me" and a righteous "A Change Is Gonna Come." ...
| | Alexis Korner Kornerstoned: Anthology 1958-1983 CD (2006) (Import) United Kingdom
Essential Jim Reeves
$24.79 Gravel-voiced Alexis Korner is arguably the most important figure in the history of British blues - the inspiration for several generations of star musicians, from The Rolling Stones to Led Zeppelin & beyond. This first-ever full-career retrospective spans everything from mid-50s skiffle to his final blues outings, via groundbreaking 60s R&B & his pop hits with CCs in the 70s. Two CD set. Castle. 2005.
While MUSICALLY RICH...AND FAMOUS documents the second half of British blues godfather Alexis Korner's career, KORNERSTONED adopts a more comprehensive approach, following the pioneering singer/guitarist from the very beginning of his musical life, all the way through every subsequent phase of his development. So we get not only his mid-1960s work with burgeoning blues-rock giants like Paul Rodgers and Steve Marriott, but also his `50s skiffle ...

| | Leaving Neon All Those Things You Thought You Wanted CD (2009)
Essential Jim Reeves
$7.49 Leaving Neon charges confidently on to the music scene with their debut release "All Those Things You Thought You Wanted," a five track alternative/pop/rock EP that draws from influences like Incubus, Paramore, Foo Fighters and The Spill Canvas. Formed in 2008 by Derek Harlow (vocals/guitar), Mark Spurbeck (guitar), and Ian Holmes (drums), Leaving Neon played a handful of local gigs in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area and wrote over 20 songs in preparation for their first album. The result is a focused but diverse sound that uses edgy dance rock beats and unforgettable hooks that will appeal to a wide audience. The band sought producer and engineer Izaac Burkhart from the local band Weaver at the Loom to co-produce the lbum. "Having someone like Izaac was very beneficial. He understood our goals and pushed the songs to new levels," says Harlow, the band’s primary songwriter. The album title, "All Those Things You Thought You Wanted," comes from a line in last track, "Parasite." "The theme of this album is longing - for relationships that were or could never be, for self-confidence, for purpose in life... There is something in each of these songs that echoes that line. It was really the only option we considered when naming the album," Spurbeck says. Leaving Neon establishes itself with intricate lyrics that know when to be direct, but also take the time to use allegory and subtlety. "Said the Spider to the Fly" is the best example of this. Harlow says, "I wanted to capture the feeling of a relationship in which one person wants it to move in one direction and the other wants it to stay the same. It's about a relationship that inevitably falls apart even though both individuals care about each other.”The band’s first single, “Take ...
