A short yet well-chosen anthology of Willie Colón's early recordings, Crime Pays includes each of his biggest hits -- "Che Che Colé," "Guisando," "El Malo," "Juana Peña," "Jazzy" -- from the late '60s and early '70s. Though the Colón/Lavoe gangster-style cover earns bonus points for style, most fans of Willie Colón will want all of the LPs these tracks were compiled from. ~ John Bush
Keeps on puffing This is one bad-*** jam detras de otro. I had the LP cuando joven, but I left it behind (among many others) when I joined the military y mis hermanitos used most of them as frisbees. I wanted to go gangsta on them kids. Pero este cd continues to smoke. Timeless. Submitted by erosado (Union, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo

Best of the 60's Outstanding "greatest hits" cd from the mid to late 60's from Mssrs Colon and Lavoe. There is material here from about 4 earlier albums and it's all good. The early history of these pioneers of what is now known as Salsa is well documented in this collection. Great band! Great vocals! Great Scott, why haven't you ordered this already! CICLOS finds the Nicaraguan singer mining familiar territory in his trademark relaxed manner. On tracks such as the yearning, "Como Volver a Ser Feliz" and the soaring "Inocencia" Enrique delivers a percussion-heavy yet soothing sound which evokes warm Caribbean breezes and romantic walks on the beach. Losing his major-label contract hasn't slowed Luis Enrique, one of the young giants who made salsa romantica the hottest topic in Latin music during the late '80s and early '90s. Enrique and his 11-piece band shine on Ciclos, whether they're playing traditional salsa the way it sounded back in the '70s, integrating a few digital effects here and there ("Sonríe"), or floating the occasional Latin pop ballad ("Sombras Nada Más"). The combination of Enrique's assured delivery and a wide-ranging band makes Ciclos a success within 21st century salsa, and it became the first Luis Enrique album to reach the general Billboard album charts (and his highest scoring on both ...
