(4 Customer Reviews)
On 2006's SUITCASE, Keb' Mo's third studio outing in less than three years, the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter/guitarist (aka Kevin Moore) presents another set of soulful, accessible blues. The album begins with the light, lilting "Your Love," and continues in a relaxed and generally romantic mood with songs such as the gentle "Still There for Me," the lovelorn "Rita," and the whimsical "I See Love," creating a breezy mood that stands in notable contrast to his '04 protest record, PEACE...BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND. Given Mo's deep, easy-going vocals and straightforward, nimble guitar playing, this disc has a charm that will appeal to both curious newcomers and longtime Mo fans.

Suitcase Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) This could be his best yet What a superb album! Keb' Mo' rarely records anything less than very good, but this album is outstanding. I'm finding it very difficult picking a favourite song on this CD.

Love it!! I love everything that Keb Mo does, but this CD is soooo good! The Itch is my favorite...this CD hasn't left my player since I bought it. He just has a way of making the listening experience so smooth and beautiful. Voice, arrangements, musicians, EVERYTHING is incredible. Bright Blue! Keb Mo' proves, once again, that The Blues doesn't have to be mad, sad, drunk, or pathetic. In fact, there is a joyful kind of gospel feel to his work; yet it's absolutely authentic blues. Every song is great. Keb Mo' is so good, as everyone who's ever heard him already knows. Well Done! The most recent Keb' Mo' release is reminiscent of his earlier work, and in my humble opinion, his best work. "Suitcase" is not over produced and does not try to do too much. It is straight-forward in his song selection and instrumentation. If you feel like you "used to like Keb' Mo'", then you wil enjoy "Suitcae." $6.75 (MP3 Available for Download) A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").

$7.59 (MP3 Available for Download) What began as a few protest songs recorded by Keb' Mo' in response to the war in Iraq turned into 2004's PEACE?BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND, a 10-pack of tunes about hope and freedom. Amazingly completing this project in a month's time, Keb' Mo' managed to rustle up an interesting array of (mostly) covers.
With his rich vocals and laid-back phrasing, the Los Angeles native shines on a bubbly reading of Donny Hathaway's "Someday We'll All Be Free," takes a crackling walk through McFadden and Whitehead's "Wake Up Everybody," and strips Dylan's "The Times They Are A-Changin'" ...
| | Derek Trucks Songlines CD (2006)
Suitcase songs
$11.39 (MP3 Available for Download) This is, perhaps, the one. Derek Trucks has been on an aesthetic quest for something since he began his own recording career in 1997 -- apart from his membership in the Allman Brothers Band. Each record has gone further into establishing Trucks not only as a slide guitar wizard (that happened when he was still in his teens), but also as a serious songwriter, fine arranger, and bandleader. The Derek Trucks Band, as evidenced by the release of 2003's Soul Serenade, is a unit -- a band -- whose core has been ...
