(4 Customer Reviews)
Shayne Ward, the 2005 X Factor winner, released his debut single, "That's My Goal," within four days of the show's finale, and that was enough time for sales to easily take it to the Christmas number one spot. Repeating the feat with an album should have been slightly more difficult, although it was virtually certain to do so, following the example of Steve Brookstein, the previous year's winner. And so it proved to be the case, as the debut album, rather unimaginatively titled Shayne Ward, was released in the middle of April 2006 and was number one before the month was out. Having four months to record and polish an album was still no guarantee of quality, however, and Ward delivered an album of ballads in the style of every boy band since the mid-'90s, with songs interchangeable from those on albums by Take That, Boyzone, Westlife, and Blue. Ward was mentored throughout the show and managed afterward by Louis Walsh, so it was hardly surprising to hear the Boyzone similarities. The team behind the writing, arranging, and production of Shayne Ward is Jörgen Elofsson, David Kreuger, Steve Mac, and Per Magnusson, thus compounding the boy band links. As for the songs themselves, virtually every one is a midtempo ballad in the style that the world had come to expect from reality TV stars (at least in the U.K.), with "Someone to Love" and "That's My Goal" with the Westlife-style key change as the final chorus kicked in, and the one exception being "Next to Me," the penultimate track, an uptempo disco number even with phased vocals, just before the album closes with a live version of "Over the Rainbow" he had originally sung on the show. ~ Sharon Mawer
The nation voted for him in their millions to crown him winner of The X Factor 2005 and his record-breaking debut single 'That's My Goal' stormed to the top of the charts giving him the Christmas No.1. This 13-track album, which includes his second single 'No Promises' sees Shayne working with some of the biggest producers in the music industry, including Steve Mac, Jorgen Elofsson, Quiz/Larossi, Per & David and Cutfather & Joe. Purchase Shayne Ward CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Mindless Self Indulgence Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy CD (1999)
Shayne Ward
$10.39 Principally recorded at The Theater Studio & Mindswerve, New York, New York.
Mindless Self Indulgence's brilliantly named The Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy collects more of the group's outré, hip-hop-tinged industrial thrash. Singer Urine's bizarre falsetto sounds like a sped-up Jello Biafra, especially on tracks like "Boomin'" and "I Hate Jimmy Page." The album's 30 songs -- which sport titles like "Dicks Are for My Friends," "Cocaine and Toupees," "Faggot," and "Royally Fucked" -- are all pretty much slight variations on the group's fast-and-shocking style. Though The Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy doesn't quite deliver on the sleazy humor of its title, Mindless Self Indulgence does provide a quick, sensationalistic fix for fans of groups like Insane Clown Posse or A.C. ~ Heather Phares

| | Israel Iz Kamakawiwo'Ole Alone In Iz World CD (2001)
Shayne Ward
$13.29 While the name Israel Kamakawiwo'ole falls trippingly off few tongues, the Hawaiian singer better known as "Iz" was one of the biggest stars in his home state. Iz first came to public attention as a member of the popular Hawaiian group known as the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau. His subsequent solo career brought even greater fame, and countless fans were saddened at his untimely death in 1997. Those who mourn his passing will be gladdened by the posthumous release of ALONE IN IZ WORLD, compiled from various recording session outtakes.
While one might expect a big, deep sound to emanate from a gargantuan-sized body like that of Iz, the hefty singer actually possessed a gorgeous, fragile tenor voice full of tenderness and delicacy. That voice is put to use here on tunes that alternate between voice-and-ukelele solo performances (Iz was no slouch on the uke) and more fully arranged tunes enhanced after the singer's death. Whether crooning in his native tongue or in English, Iz cuts right through to the heart of the listener with his pure, emotive tone.
Contains an untitled hidden track after "In This Life."

| | NOFX 45 Or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough To Go On Our Other Records CDs (2002)
Shayne Ward
$9.79 This is a collection of NOFX tracks from various compilations, 7"s and EPs, plus a previously unreleased song and dub remix.
NOFX are masters of the punk ethic of self-deprecation, and it begs the question if they truly realize the mark they have made on the history of modern hardcore. After 18 years, the band that sums up its musical prowess humbly as "good," releases a staggering collection of B-sides, compilation tracks, and rare cuts (many of which were previously long out-of-print in their original 7" pressings).
A cover of the Seymour Simons standard "All Of Me" sets the tone for this collection, and boasts an attitude that really says it all; this band lives for doing things their way. It's easy to see how a song such as "Lazy" could have spawned many of the late-'90s neo-ska bands. MXPX also sneaks in a ska treatment of the song made famous by Metallica, "Last Caress." Well worth it for the expansive liner notes penned by Fat Mike alone, 45 OR 46 SONGS is a must-have for true punks ...
| | Joe Bonamassa Had To Cry Today CD (2004)
Shayne Ward
$13.79 Blues-rock guitar wizard Joe Bonamassa can make a set of electric six-strings burn and wail, but like many such guitarists, he still requires focus for it to be truly special. Such intense focus is a hallmark of HAD TO CRY TODAY. While some guitarists squander notes, Bonamassa makes each one count whether he's engaging in country-flavored picking (the late, great Danny Gatton was clearly an influence), blistering rock-edged blues, ...
| | Dwarves Come Clean CD (2000)
Shayne Ward
$9.95 Come Clean is a fairly radical departure for the Dwarves, combining catchy, garagey punk-pop tunes with jackhammer electronic beats that recall industrial-metal bands like Ministry, or the hardcore techno of Atari Teenage Riot. It's an odd, striking fusion, and parts of it actually work surprisingly well; plus, it's an interesting listen even when the juxtaposition seems a little forced. But ...
| | Wilson Phillips CD (1990)
Shayne Ward
$8.85 Carnie and Wendy Wilson are Brian Wilson's daughters; Chynna Phillips is John and Michelle Phillips' daughter.
Sugary, commercial pop/rock isn't necessarily a bad thing, and in fact can be fairly enjoyable in the right hands. But Wilson Phillips is much too sweet for its own good. This debut album -- which amazingly went quadruple platinum -- is about as lightweight and sophomoric as it gets. Chynna Phillips' weak singing on such homogenized, mundane fluff as "Impulse," "The Dream Is Still Alive," and the hit "Hold On" isn't even remotely convincing. Compared to Phillips' saccharine performances on "You're in Love" (another major hit) and "A Reason to Believe," even Tiffany and Debbie Gibson's debut albums have some bite. ~ Alex Henderson
A pleasant, harmony-filled pop-rock album, featuring hits such as "Hold On," "Release Me, " and "You're in Love." ~ William Ruhlmann
Recorded at Studio Ultimo, Los Angeles, California.

| | Robert Fripp & The League Of Crafty Guitarists Intergalactic Boogie Express - Live In Europe 1991 CD (1995) (Import)
Shayne Ward
$14.85 Robert Fripp & The League Of Crafty Guitarists: Robert Fripp, Steve Ball, Tobin Buttram, Guido Ernst, Nigel Gavin, Curt Golden, Bert Lams, Hideyo Moriya, David Pittaway, Paul Richards (guitar).
Recorded live in Dusseldorf, Hannover and Bonn, Germany in March 1991. Includes liner notes by Robert Fripp.
A 1995 live album by Robert Fripp's League of Crafty Guitarists, a performing ensemble made of students from his Guitar Craft school, INTERGALACTIC BOOGIE EXPRESS is a showcase for 10 acoustic guitarists. They take occasional solos, but most often, all ten play in unison with one or two soloing on top, a remarkable feat of precision and skill. Luckily, they don't try to simply get by on their chops; these guitarist/composers (Fripp writes very few of the group's compositions) are genuinely talented at both.
The pieces have structural and melodic interest, even on structured improvisations like "Circulation I" and "Circulation II," and there are moments of genuine wit in the music. The King Crimson homage "Larks Thrak" is an unusual blending of Fripp's two musical worlds, and it succeeds beautifully.
