After having been known as a punk-ska outfit for most of the 1990s, by the advent of 2006's IN WITH THE OUT CROWD Less Than Jake had long been chafing at the genre's restrictions. This cohesive set uses the band's ska roots as the jumping-off point for a series of forays into contemporary pop, notably on the polished "In-Dependence Day" and the big-country rock of "The Rest of My Life." Lyrically, a sense of disillusionment with the outside world hangs over the album, most apparently on songs like "Soundtrack of My Life" and "Overrated"; but on the perfectly formed, breakneck "Mostly Memories," post-teen angst and the band's punky musical energy combine in a perfect storm of dynamic pop.Alternative Press (p.204) - 3 out of 5 -- "IN WITH THE OUT CROWD keeps ska's faint pulse beating, but it also reaches out with a harder punk sensibility."

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible...
DO NOT BUY this CD unless you want to hear generic, life-less music. Not a single catchy song! Now, I love less than jake and all their previous CDs have been great, but this leap to mainstream music has killed everything that made them special before. Do not support this switch by purchasing this CD! You will be dissapointed.

I went to see them play in Leeds in APril and they were incredible they did Overrated and A Still Life Franchise I think and it was incredible, i don;t know what the hell she's on but the stuff is really good and that bolloks about ghost writers i met the band and they showed me their OWN lyrics for the new stuff and i was quite impressed, i havn;t heard enough to say it's better than anthem but i mean i like it and i love anthem so i bet it's just gonan take a bt of gettign used to

The three-volume Group Sounds set continues Collectables' diligent re-shuffling and re-packaging of doo wop and R&B singles from the late '50s and early '60s. As with other Collectables sets like For Lovers Only, Jukebox Giants, and Back Seat Memories, the Group Sounds discs offer a decent combination of national hits and regional hits. Although they are enjoyable, they are hardly definitive; and they don't exactly cater to collectors or newcomers, instead falling into some middle ground between those two poles. Another problem is that each of these discs are skimpy, containing only 12 songs. The third volume includes the Flamingos' "I Only Have Eyes for You," the Channels' "That's My Desire," the Cadillacs' "Gloria," Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers' "I Promise to Remember," the Valentines' "The Woo Woo Train," and the Elegants' "Little Star." It must be noted that there are identical sets of the Group Sounds series that are dedicated to New York's WCBS and Philadelphia's WOGL; two oldies stations that have undoubtedly spun many of these songs several times over. ~ Andy Kellman
