Supreme Jazz Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)  Stunning Kenton sound
This is truly a wonderful re-mastering job, or however they worked their magic. It is a welcome addition to the super audio collection which is sadly lacking in big band jazz. This is the only Kenton I know of. Let's hope for more Kenton of this caliber.

This SACD is a must for all true Kenton fans.
The audio from the original Kenton in Hi-Fi sessions has been accurately remastered onto this SACD. Listening on a convetional CD player shows how good the original mastering was. Playback on an SACD player reveals Kenton at his best. It is simply superb. As an added bonus there is also a very sympathetic 5.1 surround track that is nothing short of brilliant.
If you like Stan the man, you have to buy this SACD!

Membran Records should get a gold medal for having reissued one of Kenton's most interesting recordings for Capitol, whose original title was "Kenton in Hi-Fi". Recorded in 1956, it was one of the early attempts at stereo sound, and while the imaging was not so good, the sound was spectacular, even by today's standards.
Capitol's own horrible edition is still available, but it's in mono and marred by an equalization-happy engineer, who added some 12 db of bass and treble, making it one of the worst-sounding, boomy and shrill, records of all times.
The new edition, in the Supreme Jazz Series is a really splendid re-mastering in Super Audio and sounds exactly like the original master must have sounded back in '56, crisp, brilliant, with a full-bodied and warm sound, typical of tube Ampexes of the time.
The music is splendid and features the brilliant work of some of the greatest Kenton alumni, one for all, Vido Musso.
Don't miss this CD.
