A Heartwell Ending have a knack for snarky song titles ("One More Song for Your Myspace Page" and "There's Two R's in 'Sorry,' but One R in 'Whore'") and the usual pop-emo dynamics of tense verses that explode into anthemic choruses, but it's hard for anyone who has already heard Fall Out Boy or Taking Back Sunday to find much that's memorable about Trust Us, We Lie. The main thing A Heartwell Ending have in their favor is Justin Allen, a genuinely good singer who sounds unfairly constrained by the generally pedestrian songs. Giving the somewhat clichéd romantic angst and social frustration lyrics as much passion as he can without tipping over into the usual emo whines, Allen does the best he can with what he's given. Similarly, keyboardist William Schuck can do little more than add a few catchy but superfluous synth parts to songs that sound like they were written and arranged before the otherwise guitar-based band decided they wanted a keyboard player. Boring and ordinary rather than genuinely bad, Trust Us, We Lie is mostly a whole lot of nothing special. ~ Stewart Mason
A Heartwell Ending: Justin Allen (vocals); Bret Johnson (guitar, background vocals); Brandon Feldhahn (guitar); William Schuck (keyboards, background vocals); Jason Lopez (bass instrument); Robert McCann (drums).

Trust Us We Lie album
$9.49 Even though Avenged Sevenfold's first two albums clearly got them lumped into the emo camp, the California quintet always hinted at the heavy metal influence of bands like Iron Maiden. With their major-label debut CITY OF EVIL, not only have they fleshed out these tendencies via the intricate riffing of dual guitarists Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates, but they've begun to dabble with more intricate, prog-like song structures. And with singer M. Shadows recovering from vocal chord surgery, he employs a considerably more melodic approach.
The first half of CITY cleaves to what longtime fans ...
| | Carrie Underwood Some Hearts CD (2005)
Trust Us We Lie CD music
$9.59 Country purists may take offense at finding American Idol winner Carrie Underwood's debut album in the country section. An unabashedly manufactured commercial product, SOME HEARTS is the sound of mainstream country in the 2000s heavily steeped in glossy pop. There's nothing downhome or roots-conscious about Underwood's voice or looks: she's the pretty blonde next door with a fine singing voice, but the powers that be have made her a country artist, and that's what the public gets.
None of this is to say that SOME HEARTS is not a good pop album. The combination of Underwood's considerable gift and the slick, spot-on production of Dan Huff and Mark Bright makes for a fine package. Even on somewhat by-the-numbers tunes (like her smash hit "Inside Your Heaven"), ...

| | King Crimson In The Court Of The Crimson King CD (1969) Bonus Tracks
Trust Us We Lie songs
$102.39 Initial pressings featured a limited edition, cardboard-stock gatefold sleeve and unpublished archive photos.
KC's debut album introduced to the world a group that threw various '60s genres into a blender and set the results afire with a blowtorch. One of the pioneers of the progressive rock movement that began in the late '60s and flourished in the early '70s, King Crimson was arguably the most consistently creative band in the genre. On IN THE COURT they blend wispy, Donovan-ish folk-rock with Wagnerian grandeur, mind-bending heavy rock, and even a free- jazz sensibility. Greg Lake's vocals are effectively theatrical but more restrained than in his later ELP work. Robert Fripp was just learning how to make mincemeat of a chord progression, but he's alternately lyrical and frenetic ...

| | Open Hand Dream CD (2003)
Trust Us We Lie songs
$9.69 When a rocker who is known for his association with one band forms a new band, some people inevitably assume that the new band will be similar. But that isn't necessarily the case. Take Open Hand founder Justin Isham, for example. The singer/guitarist is known for his association with the Los Angeles-based hardcore band I Awake, but Open Hand isn't hardcore. Even if one has a very liberal and far-reaching definition of that term, The Dream cannot honestly be described as a ...
